Lead Scheduler - Large New Construction Programs

Tampa, FL
Transportation At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

As Tampa International Airport expands to meet growing passenger demand, we’re seeking a Lead Scheduler to join Jacobs – a global leader in program management and airport design.

Jacobs has proudly been ranked #1 in the world for Program Management by ENR for four consecutive years, and we’ve been at the forefront of airport design and construction for decades. Since 2014, we’ve partnered with Tampa International Airport to deliver world-class program/construction management services for a large variety of capital projects. During the next three years, our team will be supporting the management of a new terminal concourse that will expand the Airport’s capacity by approximately 20%. One of the key members of our team is the Lead Scheduler who will be responsible for the overall management of the master construction schedule.

In this role, you’ll leverage your deep understanding of the construction industry and proven expertise in developing, maintaining, and analyzing complex construction schedules. You’ll review contractor schedules to ensure logical accuracy from a construction standpoint and apply your knowledge of multiple disciplines—electrical, mechanical, architectural, and systems—along with exposure to structural components, to keep projects on track and aligned with program goals.

  • Replacing retiring Lead Scheduler who has already developed the overall multi-year new master construction schedule involving four contractors for a $1.5B new terminal project, and a second construction schedule for a new $300 million baggage system project. Will also need to coordinate a small rail contract - that moves people back and forth from the new concourse - with the master schedule,
  • Good news is we have worked out the contractor interfaces with a well-integrated master schedule for the terminal project. The baggage handling construction schedule has also been developed by the contractor.
  • Manages the updates and adjustments to the Master Construction Schedules for the Airside D Program (5 contractors and miscellaneous service providers) and the Consolidated Checked Baggage System Project (1 contractor). The Airside D Program (ASD) is the construction of a new 16 gate concourse with a people mover connection with a total estimated program cost of $1.5 billion. The Consolidated Checked Baggage System Project (CCBS) is the replacement of a major portion of the Airport’s existing baggage handling system (BHS) with a total project estimate of $300 million. The ASD and CCBS work will run concurrently and are scheduled to finish late 2028/early 2029. Design work is completed and enabling work has begun for both.
  • Works closely with Jacobs’ Construction Management team and the contractors’ scheduling teams.
  • Integrates owner requirements and collects monthly progress updates from the required stakeholders.
  • Participates in weekly project construction progress meetings and reports scheduling concerns and any ongoing mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluates contractor progress meeting interim milestones and identifies potential issues if interim milestones are not met. Coordinates schedule updates with contractors working on ASD, especially those impacting critical milestones.
  • Reviews contractors’ monthly schedule submissions. Develops monthly Technical Schedule Reports (TSR) for each contractor’s schedule submission. Discusses these TSRs with the respective contractors and coordinates corrective actions. The monthly schedule reviews will also highlight key areas of risk and schedule slippage
  • Manges the completion of all schedule submissions within the review timeline.
  • Evaluates schedule risks with Jacobs’ construction management team and makes recommendations for tracking these risks and associated corrective actions.
  • Works with the Jacobs’ construction management team to identify the need for the issuance of a recovery schedule based on contractual requirements and identified slippage.
  • Provides a 30, 60, 90-day key activities description for the Airport’s monthly Executive Committee meetings.
  • Updates and maintains the Monthly Metrics report schedule sections, including the project’s scheduling performance index (SPI).
  • Attends the Airport’s monthly project review meetings and presents key schedule updates.
  • Supervises the other Jacobs’ Team scheduler.
  • Works closely with the contractors’ scheduling teams on corrective actions and mitigation measures.

Here's what you'll need

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience working as a construction scheduler on infrastructure programs with a program management firm and/or contractor.
  • Within the 15 years of experience, candidates must have at least five years working on large ($500 million plus) multi-year, complex, new construction, infrastructure programs with multiple contractors. Such as a large rail terminal, hospital, college campus, an airport project, or other project types having a wide variety of construction disciplines.
  • Minimum three years in a lead scheduler or scheduling manager position.
  • Must work onsite at Tampa airport during the regular work week (M-F). Relocation assistance or monthly stipend provided.
  • Demonstrated skill and extensive usage of P6 Scheduling Software.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of the construction industry with a strong understanding of how construction schedules are developed, maintained, and updated. Demonstrates the ability to review a contractor’s schedule and quickly assess its logical accuracy from a construction perspective. Familiar with multiple project disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, architectural, fire suppression, and control systems—and has practical exposure to structural components, enabling a comprehensive view of project requirements.
  • Experience conducting detailed reviews of schedule updates, preparing Technical Schedule Reports, and recovery plans if a contractor gets behind schedule and making recommendations to the owner.
  • Proven track record working as an integral team member on the project management team for a large, complex infrastructure project. Preferred, but not required qualifications:
  • Experience working on an airport capital program
  • Experience leading a scheduling team working for a “Contractor”.
