Position Description & Qualifications
The Technical Writer supports documentation efforts for complex technical environments, including projects requiring significant expertise in COBOL systems and Air Force Depot Maintenance processes. This role contributes to the development of clear, accurate, and user‑friendly documentation to support engineering, maintenance, and system modernization activities. The Technical Writer collaborates with users, engineers, subject matter experts, and technical staff to translate technical concepts into structured manuals, reports, guides, and web‑based content. This position requires strong professional judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to plan and accomplish tasks with general supervision. Creativity and adaptability are important as the role involves shaping documentation formats that meet both customer expectations and internal quality standards.

In This Role, You Will:

• Write and edit technical articles, reports, brochures, manuals, and related documentation for diverse technical audiences
• Coordinate layout, graphics, and final production of documentation deliverables
• Conduct interviews with users, technical staff, and subject matter experts to gather required information
• Research, translate, and organize complex technical data into clear, structured documentation
• Document engineering processes, specifications, and procedural workflows
• Recommend documentation formats aligned with customer requirements and internal standards
• Ensure all delivered products meet company documentation and quality assurance guidelines
• Work under general supervision, applying judgment and creativity to accomplish goals

To be successful In this role you will have:

• High School Diploma
• 8 years of technical writing experience
• 10 years COBOL experience
• 10 years Air Force Depot Maintenance experience
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies
• Experience with Atlassian tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence)
• NACI – National Agency Check with Inquiries (correct expansion; this phrasing improves candidate recognition and accuracy)

Salary range: The range for this position can be found at the top of this posting. This range is provided as a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate across all experience levels. Actual base salary will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the scope of the role, relevant experience, job-related knowledge, education and training, key skills, and geographic market considerations. For roles available in multiple states, the range may vary to reflect differences in local labor markets. In addition to base salary, eligible positions may include other forms of compensation such as annual bonuses or long-term incentive opportunities.
