Winter - Summer 2025 Staff Accountant Intern

Interns at Neville Wainio, CPAs take on the roles of a first year staff accountant (audit and tax) and an administrative assistant. Below is a description of tasks an intern will perform in each of the three areas:

• Import and balance client trial balance – teaches intern software capabilities and how to find and correct errors if a trial balance is out of balance.


• Assign lead schedules to trial balance – teaches intern the basic financial statement groupings.


• Cash section audit – teaches intern basic audit objectives, testing methods and documentation.


• Depreciation entry – teaches intern software capabilities, how to find and correct errors if the depreciation schedule does not agree to original client data and the general ledger, and various depreciation methods and lives.


• Drafting of financial statements – teaches intern software capabilities, the basics of standard financial statements, how the three basic financial statements flow together and how to find and correct errors if the financial statements are out of balance.

Staff Tax Accountant

• Import and balance client trial balance – teaches intern software capabilities and how to find and correct errors if a trial balance is out of balance.


• Assign tax line codes – teaches intern basic tax groupings for S Corporations and partnerships.


• Import tax line items and balance corporate and partnership tax returns – teaches intern software capabilities and how to find and correct errors if a tax return is out of balance.


• Contact clients for tax documents needed and other questions – teaches intern common documents needed to prepare a return and professional writing skills.

Administrative Assistant

• Correspond with clients via phone and email – teaches intern professional communications and several facets of a CPA practice.


• Scan and file documents – teaches intern filing structure, technology capabilities and the types of documentation retained for different engagements.


• Scheduling – teaches intern professional communication and the job functions for partner level CPAs.

Compensation: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
