Job Summary (Essential Functions)

The Equipment Manager reports to the Golf Course Superintendent (GCS) and is responsible for maintaining and repairing all equipment associated with the golf course maintenance department and some cart barn related items. This role includes developing and implementing a preventative maintenance schedule, assisting in training staff on the safe and proper use of equipment, and advising the GCS on major equipment failures and replacement needs

Requirements:

Job Tasks/Duties:

  • Develop and implement a preventative maintenance schedule for all equipment.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair operating deficiencies in equipment.
  • Lubricate, service, and adjust golf course maintenance equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain detailed service, repair, and usage records for all equipment.
  • Assist in safety procedures for equipment operation and maintain related records.
  • Perform grinding and sharpening of cutting units to maintain optimal performance.
  • Manage budget, invoices, inventory, equipment repairs, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Oversee the purchasing of parts, supplies, and materials needed for equipment maintenance.
  • Ensure the safe and environmentally responsible storage and disposal of hazardous materials, including fuel, grease, and solvents.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Assist in staff training on the operation, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Advise GCS on major equipment failures and replacement needs.
  • Perform general equipment overhauls as required.
  • Work schedule that includes weekdays, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations:

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Understanding of reel mowers and required maintenance.
  • Possession of a valid drivers’ license
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in golf course equipment repair or automotive repair.
  • Ability to retrieve, read, and interpret technical information from manuals and sources.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair golf course equipment efficiently.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems, manage multiple tasks under pressure, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, as required.
  • Physical requirements:
  • Stand, sit, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, bend, and kneel for up to five (5) hours at a time.
  • Lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally, 50 lbs. frequently, and 20 lbs. constantly.
  • Professional attitude, appearance, and demeanor in all situations.
  • Approachable, friendly, and committed to teamwork.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
  • May need to use some protective equipment, such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots and hat.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate regularly works in outside weather conditions, and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The associate is frequently exposed to extreme heat. The associate occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
