Senior Litigation Attorney - Premises Liability FL (Remote)

Derrevere Stevens Black & Cozad
West Palm Beach, FL

Job Description

Job Description

Derr evere Stevens Black & Cozad (DSB&C ) is seeking a partner-level Litigation Attorney licensed in Florida to help lead and grow its Premises Liability Defense practice as part of the firm’s Florida and national litigation platform. This role is ideal for a seasoned Florida defense litigator who excels at managing complex premises liability and general liability matters, enjoys direct collaboration with insurance carriers and national clients, and thrives in a remote, tech-forward environment.

The successful candidate will serve as one of the key leaders in the practice—overseeing a sophisticated Florida-focused caseload, supervising and mentoring associates, and partnering with firm leadership on strategy, client development, and practice growth. This position is designed with a clear long-term runway, including the opportunity over time to assume and expand upon an existing equity partner’s established book of business as part of a thoughtful succession plan.

In this role, you will operate with significant autonomy while collaborating closely with partners, associates, and professional staff. Core responsibilities include:

  • Leading a diverse docket of Florida premises liability and related civil defense cases from intake through resolution, including trial where appropriate
  • Serving as primary point of contact for insurance carriers, TPAs, and national clients, including regular reporting, evaluation, and strategy updates
  • Developing case strategy, liability and damages analyses, and resolution plans aligned with client and carrier expectations
  • Handling all phases of litigation in Florida state and federal courts, including pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, and trial preparation
  • Supervising and mentoring associates and support staff, delegating work efficiently while maintaining high quality and consistency
  • Effectively leveraging firm technology, case management tools, and LLM platforms to increase quality, speed, and efficiency in drafting and analysis
  • Collaborating with firm leadership on client development, practice-group initiatives, and cross-office opportunities
  • Contributing positively to a remote-first culture grounded in excellence, accountability, and trust

The ideal candidate brings a combination of substantive experience, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Qualifications and capabilities include:

  • Significant litigation experience (10+ years), with a strong focus on civil defense; substantial premises liability experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated responsibility for a meaningful litigation caseload from inception through resolution, including pre-suit evaluation and active litigation
  • Robust defense-side experience working directly with insurance carriers, TPAs, and national clients, including adherence to guidelines and reporting requirements
  • Track record as lead counsel in depositions, mediations, hearings, and, ideally, trials in Florida
  • Experience supervising and mentoring junior attorneys and managing litigation teams or pods
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills—particularly important in a remote environment where clear, concise, and timely communication is essential
  • Comfort and fluency with legal technology, case management systems, and experience using LLM platforms to generate and refine briefs, memos, deposition outlines, and discovery
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities, deadlines, and reporting for a high-level caseload
  • Juris Doctor and active membership in good standing with The Florida Bar (required)
  • Additional bar admissions are a plus but not required
  • A low-ego, collaborative mindset—someone who works well with others, respects established workflows, and contributes positively to firm culture

This role is designed not just as a lateral landing spot, but as a platform for long-term growth. At DSB&C, partners benefit from:

  • A defined pathway to increased leadership responsibilities within the Florida Premises Liability Defense practice
  • Direct collaboration with equity partners on high-exposure matters and client relationships
  • The opportunity over time to take on and expand an existing equity partner’s established book of business as part of the firm’s succession planning
  • Cross-jurisdictional practice opportunities within the firm’s broader national client base
  • Ongoing development in trial advocacy, negotiation, client strategy, and team leadership
  • The ability to shape practice procedures, workflows, and tech usage in a highly receptive, innovation-friendly environment

DSB&C is built on a culture grounded in Excellence, Integrity, and a Client-First mindset. Attorneys thrive in an environment defined by:

  • High professional standards and meticulous preparation
  • Collaboration over competition and a commitment to being a genuinely good colleague
  • A respectful, supportive atmosphere with meaningful independence and trust
  • A trial-ready culture emphasizing quality advocacy and superior client service
  • A remote-forward structure that relies on accountability, communication, and performance rather than office facetime

We work hard, support each other, and genuinely care about the people we work with and for. Being a good human is just as important here as being a good lawyer.

Attorneys excel at DSB&C because they are empowered to do substantive, impactful litigation work with strong institutional backing. Our attorneys are able to:

  • Take true ownership of cases and drive litigation strategy
  • Gain and maintain significant courtroom and advocacy experience in Florida
  • Work directly with sophisticated national clients and insurers
  • Maintain work-life balance without rigid billable-hour pressure
  • Build long-term careers in a high-performance environment that still feels human and collegial

DSB&C offers competitive, experience-based compensation aligned with seniority, demonstrated trial proficiency, and practice-building contributions. A comprehensive benefits package supports attorneys at every stage of their careers and includes, but is not limited to:

  • Unlimited PTO
  • Medical insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Fully remote work with robust technology support

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume. All inquiries will be handled confidentially to protect candidates who are currently employed.
