REQUIREMENTS (69A-37.039(2), F.A.C):
Fire Service Instructor I:
- H igh school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of six (6) years’ experience as a regular member of an organized fire department.
- Fire Officer I, and Fire Instructor I certification.
- Hold Florida State Firefighter Certificate of Compliance.
- Hold a Florida State Fire Instructor I certification.
- Previous experience as a fire instructor for fire science programs.
Fire Officer I
- Successfully complete all required course work; and,
- Pass the Fire Officer I state examination with a score of 70% or higher; and,
- Possess an active Firefighter Certificate of Compliance issued by the Division or have met the curriculum requirements for Firefighter Part I as defined in subsection 69A-37.055(1), F.A.C.; and,
- Submit the required Form DFS-K4-1447, “Application for Fire Officer I Certification,” which is incorporated by reference in subsection 69A-37.039(2), F.A.C., and can be obtained where indicated in subsection 69A-37.039(1), F.A.C., with all supporting documentation and fees, to the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training; and,
- Submit the required Form DFS-K4-2106, “Fire Officer I Task Book,” to the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
PREFERENCES:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, or Fire Administration Management from an accredited college or university.
- Fire Officer II or III.
- Fire Instructor II or III.
- Three (3) years of experience as a fire instructor in the fire science programs.
The salary range for this position will be $22.00 - $28.00 hourly, based on education and experience.
Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.
This position requires a security background check, including fingerprint as a condition of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles of interpersonal relationships.
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain internal and external working relationships with others.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Identifies training needs of constituent groups and assists in addressing needs., Prepares materials for class presentation, and conducts classroom presentation in didactic manner and/or hands on training through practical application. Determine level of comprehension through various assessment instruments.
- Meets with and informs supervisory personnel in program development regarding curriculum and instructional techniques and assists in updating curriculum, course presentations, and plan of instruction.
- Reviews training and certification education programs and services to ensure that activities conform with Florida Administrative Code 69A-37 and 39, Florida Statutes 633.400 series, Bureau policies, and other laws and regulations as required.
- Assists in planning and coordinating statewide education conferences and workshops for educational and administrative personnel.
- Other related work as assigned by Supervisor and/or the Bureau
