Senior HVAC Installation & Diagnostics Lead Technician

At Rack Air, you’ll own the day. Picture this: you review your ServiceTitan schedule, line out a two-person crew, and head to a residential change-out. You assess the site, finalize the installation plan, and oversee duct transitions in sheet metal. By midday, you’re commissioning an inverter-driven heat pump, verifying charge, airflow, and controls. In the afternoon, a commercial rooftop package unit calls—electrical and mechanical diagnostics are second nature. You document findings with XOI, explain options clearly to the customer, complete warranty service, and close the loop with a quality check and accurate records. That’s a day done right.

What you’ll do

• Install, maintain, and repair ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.
• Lead and supervise HVAC installation projects end-to-end—planning, execution, start-up, and handoff.
• Diagnose complex electrical and mechanical faults; perform targeted repairs and component replacements.
• Execute system diagnostics and preventative maintenance to keep equipment operating at peak performance.
• Handle warranty services and verify performance through commissioning and post-install QA.
• Identify maintenance risks; recommend corrective actions and long-term solutions.
• Complete full installations and replacements of HVAC systems and major components.
• Conduct site assessments and develop installation plans as needed.
• Ensure every installation meets safety standards and applicable building codes.
• Train and mentor junior technicians and installers on best practices.
• Communicate clearly with customers about findings, solutions, and system operation.
• Maintain accurate service reports and installation records.
• Stay current with HVAC technologies and industry advancements.

Preferred tools and platforms

• ServiceTitan and XOI (plus).
• Experience with gas, propane, and sheet metal (plus).
• Strong familiarity with inverter systems, including diagnostics and service.
• Hands-on work with Mini-Splits, Package Units, and Split Systems.
• Comfortable across both residential and commercial environments.

What you bring

• Minimum 5 years of HVAC field experience.
• At least 3 years in a Lead Technician or Lead Installer capacity.
• Proven background in both installation and service.
• Exceptional troubleshooting and diagnostic capability.
• Manufacturer certifications preferred (Trane, Carrier, Daikin, Goodman, Lennox, etc.).
• EPA Certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when needed.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Technical HVAC certification (preferred).
