Front Desk Receptionist - Medical Assistant
Salary:
$19.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience
Main practice is in Ocala, FL but MUST be able to commute once a week to Clermont and Gainesville, FL offices (alternating weekly)
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Front Desk Medical Receptionist / Medical Assistant to support a multi-location medical practice. This role is a blend of front desk operations and clinical support, focused on delivering excellent patient experiences while maintaining efficient provider schedules and treatment room utilization. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is highly organized, and is comfortable multitasking across administrative, patient-facing, and clinical support duties.
This position requires the ability to commute weekly between offices in Ocala, Clermont, and Gainesville, FL, based on provider schedules. Flexibility and reliable transportation are a must.
Job Responsibilities:
Greet and assist patients and visitors in person and over the phone
Manage patient check-in and check-out processes accurately and efficiently
Schedule patient appointments and follow-up visits
Maintain and update patient demographic and financial information in the EMR system (Athena preferred)
Answer high-volume phone lines; manage voicemails, emails, and faxes
Coordinate and communicate with medical assistants, billing, legal, and surgery scheduling teams
Assist clinical staff with chart preparation and documentation
Ensure HIPAA and OSHA compliance at all times
Maintain a clean, organized reception and waiting area
Perform proficient data entry and scanning/faxing of documents
Support telehealth appointments, including rotating Saturday coverage (8:00 AM–1:00 PM)
Adapt to changing workloads and contribute to overall team success as needed
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or higher preferred
1–3 years of experience in a medical front desk and/or medical assistant role required
Prior orthopedic or spine practice experience strongly preferred
Previous experience with Athena EMR system preferred
Strong communication skills with patients, providers, and insurance representatives
Solid understanding of medical terminology and clinical workflows
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and EMR systems
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management
Caring, professional demeanor and ability to work collaboratively
Must be willing and able to commute once a week to Clermont and Gainesville offices from Ocala
