We are looking for a professional candidate to work in an outpatient clinic. The candidate must have the following qualities for consideration: friendly demeanor, experience with EMRs, familiarity with medications/dosage, good work ethics , and medical knowledge.
A "Medical Records and Referral Coordinator" is responsible for managing patient medical records, ensuring accuracy and accessibility, while also coordinating patient referrals to specialists or other healthcare providers by reviewing medical records, verifying insurance coverage, obtaining necessary authorizations, and scheduling appointments, all while maintaining clear communication with patients and healthcare team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medical Records Management:
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient electronic and physical medical records.
- Retrieving and reviewing patient medical history to assess referral needs.
- Ensuring proper documentation of all patient interactions and referrals.
- Managing record requests and releases according to HIPAA regulations.
- Referral Coordination:
- Receiving and processing patient referral requests from providers.
- Verifying insurance coverage and obtaining necessary pre-authorizations for referrals.
- Selecting appropriate specialists based on patient needs and insurance coverage.
- Scheduling appointments with specialists and communicating details to patients.
- Following up on referrals to ensure timely completion of appointments and necessary follow-up care.
- Patient Communication:
- Explaining referral process to patients and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Providing patients with information regarding specialist appointments, including location, date, and necessary preparation.
- Coordinating with patients to reschedule appointments as needed.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Maintaining detailed logs and tracking systems for referrals.
- Collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure smooth referral process.
- Identifying and resolving any issues related to referrals or medical records.
- Staying updated on insurance regulations and referral guidelines.
Required Skills:
- Medical Knowledge: Understanding of basic medical terminology and disease processes.
- Administrative Skills: Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication to interact with patients, providers, and insurance companies.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Customer Service Skills: Ability to provide excellent patient care and resolve issues effectively.
