Step into a principal-level role where you guide high-voltage substation projects from spark to switch-on. As the Lead HV Substation Project Engineer (Grid Integration), you’ll manage internal substation initiatives from early concept through construction and commissioning—all while working remotely and traveling to Juno Beach, FL on a bi-monthly basis. This is a 1-year W-2 contract opportunity.
A Day in the LifeYou begin by aligning with the Early-Stage Project Manager and Development teams to scope engineering needs—sometimes for FERC 1000 transmission proposals, other times for true greenfield builds. You orchestrate project meetings, keep an eagle eye on progress, and turn issues into action with measurable results. You secure engineering consulting partners via NEER’s Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), define scopes of work, run competitive bids, and award packages. You collaborate across functions to identify and secure the substation site, and you help gather the data, permits, and updates essential for development.
As interconnection studies take shape, you support Transmission Services in reviewing system impact and facility studies, reactive and harmonic analyses, and interconnection agreements—verifying Transmission Owner requirements and E&C design meet ISO standards and flow into the project. You lead design development through 10%, 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC milestones, coordinating closely with EORs. You structure review cycles, consolidate comments, and keep everyone aligned on work plans and clear lines of demarcation. You back the schedule from the engineering side, support Legal through regulatory filings, depositions, and hearings, and partner with OEMs to fine-tune equipment to NEER philosophies. Throughout, you scan the horizon for technology and standards updates that could elevate the project.
What You’ll Drive- Project governance: meetings, tracking, analytics, and corrective actions
- Issue resolution: root-cause analysis, solution implementation, and verification
- Supplier engagement: scope creation, bid evaluation, and awards through NEER’s ISC
- Site development: coordination for site selection, engineering updates, permits, and data
- Interconnection rigor: review of studies and agreements; ISO alignment across design
- Design lifecycle: manage 10/30/60/90/IFC deliverables (physical, electrical, civil)
- EOR collaboration: develop design packages and manage multidisciplinary reviews
- Team orchestration: clarify work plans and engineering boundaries
- Schedule support: reinforce project timelines from the engineering perspective
- Regulatory interface: support Legal in filings, depositions, and hearings
- OEM partnership: adapt component designs to NEER standards and philosophies
- Continuous learning: research and apply relevant advances to the project
- BS in Electrical Engineering required; MS preferred
- 11+ years in high-voltage substation design and engineering
- Proven project engineering and project management experience
- PE stamp not required
- Willing to travel within North America; bi-monthly reporting to Juno Beach, FL
- Employment type: 1-year contract (W-2)
- Remote-first with travel to Juno Beach, FL once every two weeks

We are committed to transparency and equity in all our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $55.00–$60.00/hr.
