Consultant Psychiatrist - Part time (Wellington)

This role offers an excellent opportunity to be part of a highly collaborative and supportive team, with dedicated assistance from both a Medical Secretary and a Specialist Doctor to facilitate efficient daily operations.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure clients receive holistic, person-centric care based on the recovery model. You will also support providing high-quality clinical care using hospital services.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, your responsibilities will include:

• Taking clinical responsibility for patients, including multidisciplinary ward rounds, risk reviews, strategic reviews, and developing a therapeutic milieu.
• Fulfilling the role of Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983).
• Providing psychiatric perspectives to the multidisciplinary team regarding assessment, formulation, and treatment of patients.
• Contributing to management and clinical governance meetings and service strategy development.
• Participating in in-house training and supervising other team members, especially junior medical staff.
• Maintaining CPD and re-validation requirements as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists or relevant bodies.
• Being part of an on-call Responsible Clinician rota.

To be successful in this role, you should:

• Be medically qualified, with MRC Psych or equivalent.
• Be innovative and capable of initiating corporate decisions.
• Have an understanding of current developments in psychiatry and mental health.
• Possess substantial knowledge of change management, relevant legislation, and contemporary mental health issues.
• Have previous consultant experience in a management role.
