Title: Permitting Customer Service Clerk (6-Month Project)

Location: Ocala, FL

Pay rate: $20.88/hr

Hours: 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Friday, |

Support the Building Department by serving as the primary phone contact for residents, contractors, and business owners with questions about permits, inspections, and licensing requirements. This role is heavily focused on answering inbound calls, providing accurate information, and ensuring a smooth permitting experience for the community.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum one year of customer service experience, preferably in a high-volume phone environment.
• Working knowledge of building permits, inspections, or permitting processes.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to accurately enter and update data.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with the public, contractors, and internal staff.

What You’ll Do

• Answer a high volume of incoming calls related to building permits, inspections, contractor licensing, and department procedures.
• Provide clear, accurate information regarding permit requirements, application processes, fees, and timelines.
• Assist customers in understanding Florida building codes and local permitting regulations.
• Guide callers through completing permit applications and submitting required documentation.
• Enter and update permit information in the system with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Notify customers of missing or incomplete documentation and explain corrective steps.
• Review resubmitted materials and update records accordingly.
• Calculate and verify permit-related fees, collect payments when applicable, and issue receipts.
• Maintain organized records and follow established departmental procedures.
• Deliver professional, courteous customer service in all interactions.
