About the Role
Position Summary
The Reliability Engineer will support the long-term performance, safety, and sustainability of critical manufacturing assets within a chemical processing environment. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving reliability strategies that enhance equipment availability, reduce risk, and optimize lifecycle costs.
The Reliability Engineer serves as a trusted technical advisor to Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams, providing subject matter expertise in asset integrity, failure analysis, and reliability-centered maintenance. The position plays a key role in driving operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reliability Strategy & Asset Performance
- Develop and implement reliability plans to improve the availability, performance, and longevity of plant assets.
- Guide equipment design, maintenance, and operational strategies using reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) principles.
- Establish and maintain asset lifecycle management strategies, including mechanical integrity and corrosion mitigation programs.
- Develop and implement operator basic care standards and daily inspection routines.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) efforts, including corrective action development and follow-through.
- Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), criticality ranking, and risk assessments to support operations and capital projects.
- Perform risk and failure mode analyses to support project teams and operational decision-making.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in welding, corrosion under insulation (CUI), and environmentally assisted cracking mechanisms (ECSCC).
- Conduct Fitness-for-Service (FFS) assessments and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for critical assets.
- Oversee compliance with mechanical integrity standards, inspection programs, and industry best practices.
- Develop, implement, and refine preventive and predictive maintenance strategies using historical data, failure modes, and best practices.
- Coordinate with Operations and Maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and execution quality.
- Lead and coordinate repair planning activities across departments.
- Provide reliability input and equipment recommendations for capital projects and major modifications.
- Support projects through engineering design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and startup phases.
- Develop, monitor, and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to reliability and asset performance.
- Maintain equipment data, failure history, and maintenance records within SAP PM.
- Support SAP PM training, data quality improvement, and system optimization initiatives.
About You
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline).
- Minimum 5 years of combined experience as a Reliability Engineer and a background in Industrial Maintenance within heavy manufacturing environments such as chemical, oil/gas, power plant, pulp/paper, etc.
- Strong knowledge of reliability engineering and statistical analysis.
- Experience with reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) tools and techniques.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and deliver projects across the full lifecycle within structured stage-gate frameworks.
- Strong technical background with a deep understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning processes.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all organizational levels.
- Proven track record of delivering projects that are safe, compliant, and aligned with business objectives.
- Highly self-directed, organized, and capable of managing complex assignments with minimal oversight.
- Experience with RCAs, FMEAs, and Turnaround management software and tools for planning, tracking, and reporting.
- Commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Project management and/or process improvement certifications are a plus (PMBOK,PMP, Lean Six Sigma, etc.).
- Certification in Reliability Engineering is an advantage.
