School Safety Officer

The Opportunity: We are seeking a mission-aligned and reliable School Safety Officer to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a permanent, full-time, 10-month, hourly position responsible for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-supervised campus environment for our students, families, and staff. The ideal candidate brings professionalism, vigilance, and a calm, respectful demeanor to this important role. This position is designated as Class "D" unarmed and will collaborate with our contracted Class "G" armed security officer. The School Safety Officer reports to the Director of Operations and serves as a key member of the campus safety team. Position Overview: The School Safety Officer provides daily on-site security coverage, supports school operations, and serves as a visible and reassuring presence on campus. The role includes patrolling the campus, monitoring gate access, assisting with arrival and dismissal, and responding to routine safety concerns. This is not a law enforcement role, but rather a professional and service-oriented position focused on creating a safe, orderly, and mission-driven school environment. Key Responsibilities: Serve as a visible, friendly, and professional safety presence on campus throughout the school day Monitor entry and exit points; verify visitors and ensure adherence to campus protocols Patrol campus buildings, gates, playgrounds, and perimeters regularly Assist with arrival and dismissal traffic flow, carline supervision, and event support Respond promptly to incidents, safety concerns, or minor student issues in a calm and professional manner Support school leadership during fire drills, lockdown drills, and emergency events Collaborate with the school's armed security officer and operations team Complete incident documentation and reports as directed Uphold and model the values of respect, responsibility, and Catholic hospitality Perform additional safety and supervision duties as assigned by the Director of Operations Required Qualifications: Florida Class "D" Security Officer License or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment Prior experience in security, public safety, school supervision, military service, or a related role Calm, courteous, and steady demeanor with strong situational awareness Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times Ability to pass a Level II background check and fingerprint screening Alignment with the mission and values of Royal Palm Academy Physical and Other Demands: Ability to walk and patrol the outdoor school campus in seasonal Florida weather, including high heat and humidity Ability to remain on foot, walk, or stand for extended periods of time throughout the school day Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds, including the potential to assist in lifting or carrying another person in an emergency May be required to physically respond to highly stressful emergency situations, including running, physical restraint, or lifting under duress A high degree of physical fitness is expected, commensurate with the responsibilities of a School Safety Officer on a PK-8 campus Must be able to quickly and effectively move throughout multiple buildings, stairways, and exterior areas in response to incidents May occasionally be required to respond to school events outside of regular working hours To Apply: This position is far more than a traditional security role.
