Job Title: Facilities Maintenance - Electrical Technician
Department: Facilities Operations - Electrical
Reports To: Facilities Manager & Electrical Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

Summary

The Electrical Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining electrical equipment and components related to construction and maintenance projects and activities relating to water, wastewater and building facilities in accordance with federal, state and local policies and procedures. Work duties assigned but not limited to the following:

Examples of Work

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Perform predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance on all electrical equipment within the scope of the facilities department to include telemetry, industrial motor controls (both AC and DC), and solid-state devices.
  • Periodically calibrate process meters to ensure accuracy traceable to the National Bureau of Standards and what is required by FDEP. Provide documentation to the accuracy of each process meter. Ensure that all preventive maintenance tasks are accomplished as scheduled and documented in the asset management program.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems and utilize wiring schematics.
  • Service low voltage electrical equipment (voltages 5-50vdc; 12-480VAC). Perform installation and start-up of new and rebuilt equipment.
  • Ensure accountability of all equipment and materials used in the repair or maintenance of electrical equipment and facilities.
  • Regularly check for equipment malfunctions. Inspect and service mechanical and electrical control systems (starters, timers, controllers, and telemetry systems). Determine the need for repair or replacement of electrical controls and components. Replace bad circuit board components.
  • Install, repair and maintain SCADA control system. Coordinate with IT department and other contractors to maintain SCADA operations.
  • Maintain protective coatings on electrical equipment.
  • General housekeeping duties include vehicle cleaning and waxing, shop clean-up, and clean-up for work sites.
  • Provides instruction and training to electrical apprentices in methods and procedures, proper use of equipment, preventive maintenance and facility maintenance.
  • Performs electrical work and preventative maintenance related to water, wastewater and facilities.
  • Utilizes work orders for completeness and accuracy of maintenance and costs/expenditures.
  • Assists with electrical, maintenance and construction projects through communication with other departments to ensure tasks performed will maintain minimal levels of disruption to routine business activities.
  • Review blueprints, diagrams, schematics, sketches and various other forms of electrical, structural documentation in the planning phase of construction, modification and maintenance projects as assigned.
  • Ensures corrective actions are initiated as necessary to maintain local, state and federal professional electrical and construction standards.
  • Must be able to meet work schedule and attendance standards, including on-call as scheduled. Inspects and evaluates operations and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Ensure that all electrical personnel are trained and qualified to the level that will allow them to work unsupervised. Assist personnel accomplish their daily duties.
  • Utilizes company software programs for work orders, services requests, preventative maintenance and ensures all details are captured before completion/closure of said documents.
  • Attend required safety and skills training and ensure proper use of PPE related to work activities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) from the American Council on Education or Florida Department of Education;
  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license (or higher) or a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of industrial electrical construction and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of computer skills, including Word, Outlook, and Excel is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable through the company's insurance carrier.
Preference may be given to individuals that also have direct experience with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) operations. This includes the ability to monitor system performance, interpret digital telemetry, and troubleshoot communication failures between field devices and the master station. Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and the ability to read and interpret ladder logic and technical schematics to resolve automated process issues.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
