Technical Project Coordinator
Job Summary:
The Technical Project Coordinator – Sales Engineering Support role is an early-career position that supports Project Managers and Technical Project Managers in coordinating complex building projects. Working at the intersection of sales, engineering, estimating, and manufacturing, the role helps translate conceptual designs into clear technical scopes while ensuring alignment between design intent, constructability, and commercial objectives.
This position involves reviewing architectural and engineering documents, coordinating technical information, and facilitating communication between internal teams and project stakeholders. It provides a strong career foundation for professionals aiming to grow into a Project Manager or Technical Project Manager role and potentially pursue PMP certification in the construction and engineering industries.
Responsibilities
Sales & Pre-Construction Support
Partner with Sales Leaders and Engineering teams to support complex pursuits while functioning as a technical coordination lead supporting the Project Manager team.
Review architectural and engineering documents (conceptual through IFC) to identify scope gaps, risks, and assumptions that may affect the project manager planning process.
Assist in developing technical proposals, project narratives, and value-engineering solutions that support the project delivery strategy.
Support customer meetings and presentations alongside senior leadership and Project Managers.
Technical Project Coordination
Translate architectural and structural designs into internal engineering and manufacturing requirements.
Coordinate across engineering, estimating, detailing, and manufacturing teams while supporting the Technical Project Manager workflow.
Track technical decisions, open issues, and design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
Assist in transitioning awarded projects into execution phases while supporting Project Manager documentation and scope continuity.
Engineering & Design Engagement
Review models, drawings, and calculations using architectural and engineering software tools.
Identify constructability considerations, coordination risks, and interface challenges early in the process.
Assist with RFIs, technical clarifications, and engineering coordination tasks typically overseen by a Project Manager.
Process & Documentation
Maintain organized project records, design logs, and technical documentation to support the Project Manager and Technical Project Manager teams.
Assist in improving project management processes, templates, and technical coordination workflows aligned with best practices commonly used by PMP-certified Project Managers.
Required Qualifications
Education & Early Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Architecture, or related technical field.
Internship, co-op, or academic project experience in structural steel, construction, engineering consulting, or building systems.
Technical Skills
Experience using architectural and engineering tools such as:
AutoCAD
Revit
Tekla
Other modeling or BIM software
Exposure to structural design or analysis tools through academic or professional experience.
Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, structural plans, and construction documentation used by engineering and Project Manager teams.
Professional Capabilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with senior leaders, engineers, contractors, and project managers.
Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple technical workstreams.
Strong analytical thinking and curiosity to ask informed technical questions that support Project Manager decision-making.
Professional presence suitable for interacting with large enterprise clients and major contractors.
Ability to travel up to 25% as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to steel fabrication, pre-engineered metal buildings (PEMB), or complex structural systems.
Experience supporting project bids, proposals, or design-build pursuits.
Interest in developing a long-term career as a Project Manager or Technical Project Manager, including potential pursuit of PMP certification.
