Physical Education (PE) Teacher - Grades K-9
Ocala Adventist Academy is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and student-centered Part-Time Physical Education Teacher to provide developmentally appropriate physical education instruction for students in Kindergarten through 9th grade.
The PE Teacher will promote physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, teamwork, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and character development in a safe and encouraging Christian learning environment. The teacher will design activities appropriate to the developmental needs and abilities of students across elementary and middle school grade levels while supporting the mission and values of Ocala Adventist Academy and Seventh-day Adventist Christian education.
Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience teaching, coaching, or working with children and adolescents strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate physical education practices for elementary and middle school students.
- Ability to teach and supervise students ranging from Kindergarten through 9th grade.
- Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide an encouraging environment in which students of varying athletic abilities can participate successfully.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
- Ability to meet applicable school, conference, state, background-screening, and employment requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan and teach engaging, age-appropriate physical education lessons for students in grades K–9.
- Develop students' fundamental movement skills, coordination, balance, strength, flexibility, endurance, and overall physical fitness.
- Introduce students to a variety of individual and team sports, games, fitness activities, and recreational experiences.
- Adapt instruction and activities to accommodate differences in students' ages, abilities, physical development, and skill levels.
- Teach and reinforce the rules, techniques, strategies, and safety procedures associated with physical activities and sports.
- Promote teamwork, cooperation, fair play, respect, perseverance, leadership, and good sportsmanship.
- Encourage students to understand the importance of lifelong physical activity, wellness, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Maintain a positive, orderly, inclusive, and safe environment during classes and physical activities.
- Monitor students closely and implement appropriate safety procedures to minimize the risk of injury.
- Maintain and properly organize PE equipment and promptly report equipment or facility safety concerns.
- Assess student participation, effort, skill development, and progress as required by the school.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and staff.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and administration regarding schedules, student needs, special activities, and school events.
- Assist, when requested, with school-wide physical activities, field days, recreational programs, or athletic events.
- Model Christian character and integrate principles such as respect, responsibility, cooperation, integrity, stewardship of health, and care for others into the physical education program.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Principal.
