Accounting Director

Job Summary:

The Director of Accounting is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring sound fiscal management. Provides strategic and operational leadership for all financial and accounting functions of Camp Kulaqua. This role ensures the financial integrity, sustainability, and transparency of the organization while supporting its spiritual mission and ministry objectives. The Director of Accounting oversees budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and internal control in a manner consistent with Camp Kulaqua and Seventh-day Adventist principles.


Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
    • CPA or CMA certification preferred but not required
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience
    • Prior leadership experience in nonprofit or faith-based organizations strongly preferred
  • Skills & Competencies
    • Strong knowledge of nonprofit and fund accounting
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
    • Proficiency in QuickBooks and advanced Excel
    • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly
    • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism

    • Ability to work within a Christian camp and retreat environment
    • Commitment to the beliefs, mission, and values of the Seventh-day Adventist Church

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction for all accounting and financial operations
  • Maintain and oversee general ledger, journal entries, and reconciliations for all accounts
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable in a timely and accurate manner
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
  • Monitor cash flow, budgets, and expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility
  • Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Track restricted and designated funds in accordance with donor intent
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, nonprofit, and Seventh Day Adventist financial requirements
  • Oversee preparation for and coordination of internal and external audits
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies
  • Ensure adherence to Seventh-day Adventist Church financial and operational guidelines
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate accounting and finance staff
  • Promote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and service
  • Ensure cross-training and continuity of financial operations
  • Work with IT to oversee accounting software and financial management systems
  • Evaluate and improve accounting procedures and workflows
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure proper financial tracking and reporting
  • Uphold Christian values, ethical conduct, and confidentiality
  • Support the spiritual mission and standards of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
  • Serve as a member of Camp Kulaqua’s ADCom committee presenting financial reports and forecasting to assist in the future direction of the camp
  • Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to organizational planning
  • Coordinate and communicate with the Florida Conference Treasury Department
  • Prepare and present reports at Florida Conference Finance Committee meetings in association with the Executive Directo
