This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located in Region 3 in the Office of Communications.
As a member of the Office of Communications, our mission is to effectively disseminate information, foster transparency, and enhance the public's understanding of the Florida Department of Corrections. We strive to build and maintain positive relationships with the media, stakeholders, and the community, ensuring that accurate and timely information is shared to support the department's goals and initiatives.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
JOB DUTIES:
As a regional communications coordinator, you'll have the exciting responsibility of upholding regulatory standards and contributing to the Department's reentry initiatives. You'll showcase your leadership skills and commitment to reentry efforts while maintaining a professional demeanor. Reporting to the FDC Deputy Communications Director and supported by the Office of Communications, you'll travel frequently across your designated region, with a state vehicle and equipment provided for work hours. Your dynamic role includes a variety of duties, ensuring every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a meaningful impact.
- Step into the dynamic role of one of the Department's four regional communications coordinators, where you'll support the Office of Communications and make a real impact at the regional level.
- Take charge of planning, coordinating, and facilitating media visits to correctional institutions and probation offices, aiming to generate positive and engaging press coverage.
- Be the go-to person for managing and scheduling media requests for inmate interviews, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Unleash your creativity by capturing and creating captivating social media content (photos, videos, graphics) for FDC's platforms, and be ready to respond to emergencies to coordinate media presence.
- Conduct compelling interviews for Agency news publications and play a key role in regional communications by compiling insightful reports, crafting persuasive talking points, and coordinating public record requests.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Five (5) or more years of professional communication experience.
- Postsecondary education may substitute up to four (4) years of the required experience.
- Valid driver's license.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
