Requirements

THIS POSITION IS AN IN-PERSON TEACHING POSITION.

THIS POSITION PAYS $20.00 AN HOUR.

Position Summary

The temporary instructor position provides in-person instruction and support to students across the State of Florida. Students range in age from 14-21 and all have either an IEP or a 504 Plan. Class sizes range and the position allows for teachers to lead and support the students with co-teaching and support. Staffing ratios are mandated on a 1:10 teacher to student ratio. Class sizes are no larger than 30 students in a given class. Curriculum is delivered via Microsoft Teams and utilizing PowerPoint, videos, and digital workbooks. There are three core classes being offered: Work Readiness Training, Self-Advocacy, and Career Camps.

Work Schedule:

Work Readiness and Self Advocacy classes are 20 hours each and are conducted on two consecutive weekends during the school year and on weekdays throughout summer and on longer school breaks.

Career Camps are scheduled over the longer school breaks such as: Thanksgiving, Winter & Spring Break, and Summer Break. Hours would range between 25-35 hours during weeks when Career Camps are scheduled. A typical day would be 9 am-4 pm.

It may also be possible to assist with our Work Readiness and Self Advocacy classes. These classes are typically held over two subsequent weekends or during longer school breaks during the week. A typical day would be from 9 am-2:30 pm.

EmployU’s Work Readiness classes are typically scheduled on two subsequent weekends and High School students learn:

  • Conduct online job searches
  • Create a functional resume
  • Interview for a job
  • Learn about work culture
  • Practice problem solving skills
  • Build effective communication skills and strategies.

EmployU’s Self-Advocacy classes are 20-hours that focus on:

  • Effective and appropriate communication
  • Stress Management
  • ADA and disability disclosure
  • Understanding accommodations and how to request them

  • Meets with the Career Camp team to prepare for Career Camp sessions prior to and after each session.
  • Organizes guest speakers; schedules student field trips.
  • Contributes to in-person and virtual classroom activities or games; aids in the teaching of PowerPoint materials.
  • Ensures student questions are answered in either an in-person or virtual format; assists students with technical issues as needed.
  • Takes student attendance before and after class to ensure correct roster attendance; ensures correct tracking of hours for billing purposes.
  • Assists students in any way to create a positive learning environment.
  • Completes other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Completes other tasks as directed.

Skills & Abilities

Education : Bachelor's Degree in Education or other related field preferred.

Experience : Teaching experience recommended; Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint experience recommended; Experience working with students with IEP’s and 504 Plans required; Vocational training experience is preferred.

Background Screening Requirement: This position requires level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

  • Must be willing to commit to assist with the duration of all scheduled Career Camps.
  • Must be able to teach in-person.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Must have own computer, printer, smartphone with data plan, and high-speed internet connection.

Supervision: No supervisory requirements.

Travel: No travel necessary.
