Overview

Based in Edgewater, Florida, this team member will provide direct support to the Chief Operating Officer to lead and drive all functions of the Manufacturing Engineering Department. This department’s top priorities include integration of new products into manufacturing, implementation of facilities related capital projects, supporting Lean manufacturing initiatives and management of feature and process changes through an ECR/ECN process. This role will require a high energy, self-motivated individual to simultaneously manage multiple complex projects and relationships.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate closely with PD&E personnel to lead the integration of new boat models into the production environment to include plant floor layout, labor analyses, ramp up schedules, post-Start of Production issues resolution and all aspects of production readiness (i.e., fixtures, dollies, carts, etc.)
  • For boats currently in production, lead all aspects of change management related to features and processes that will improve safety, reduce waste, improve quality, reduce labor content and aid in schedule attainment
  • Lead the ECR/ECN process for the Everglades Boats organization and coordinate with the relevant stakeholders across the business who play roles in successfully implementing product and process changes
  • Lead a team of personnel within the Manufacturing Engineering Department to accomplish the goals of the department while developing teammates personally and professionally through the Everglades Boats’ Culture Pyramid
  • On existing boat models ensure BOM and print accuracy and ensure that appropriate quantities and types of work instructions and standard work exist to support production line personnel
  • Manage the special request process which allows custom features to be built into each model that are in addition to the standard and optional features offered on Everglades Boats
  • Utilize Lean methodologies to assist in the elimination of waste, the creation of additional visual management and the establishment of smooth flow to support the objectives of the operations team
  • Lead the activities to establish optimal loading of each production line and then balance the work content between workstations on each production line to achieve cycle times below TAKT
  • Identify ways to deploy manufacturing related technology across the operations with the intent of improving accuracy, speeding up communication and saving time
  • Participate and coordinate the efforts to organize activities between the two Everglades’ campuses
  • Utilize time studies or time motion systems to aid operational improvements and flow
  • Assist in the management of the capital budget and, as needed, lead capital projects that support manufacturing related improvements
  • Assist in the collection of data related to safety, quality, productivity and schedule attainment
  • Organize and lead the collection of savings from Lean related projects across the entire organization
  • Potentially participate as a member of product development core teams to ensure that manufacturing launch plans are developed to support successful integration of a new boat into its production line
  • Support other operations related projects and tasks, as needed

Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead and manage the manufacturing engineering team, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure optimal performance and development.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the manufacturing engineering department.
  2. Process Optimization and Efficiency:
    • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvement.
    • Develop and implement strategies to streamline production workflows, reduce cycle times, and increase throughput while maintaining quality standards.
    • Utilize Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to drive process improvements and eliminate waste.
  3. New Product Introduction (NPI):
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineering, production, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless integration of new products into manufacturing.
    • Lead NPI projects from concept to production, overseeing design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews, process validation, and production ramp-up activities.
  4. Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement:
    • Establish and maintain robust quality management systems (QMS) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and customer specifications.
    • Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes to address manufacturing issues and improve product quality.
    • Implement statistical process control (SPC) methods to monitor manufacturing processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  5. Supplier and Vendor Management:
    • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to evaluate and select suppliers/vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of materials/components.
    • Work closely with suppliers/vendors to improve quality, reduce lead times, and optimize costs through effective supplier relationship management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; advanced degree (e.g., Master's or MBA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in the boat or marine industry.
  • Proven leadership experience, with a track record of successfully managing and developing engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including fabrication, assembly, composites, and finishing techniques.
  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software and manufacturing automation systems (e.g., CNC machining, robotics) is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
