Apprentice Transformer Refurbishment Welder

As an Apprentice Transformer Refurbishment Welder, you will gain hands-on experience working with small and medium substation/transmission class transformers. This entry-level opportunity is ideal for recent graduates or individuals seeking to develop their technical skills in electrical repair and welding. Responsibilities
- Disassemble single-phase and three-phase transformers for inspection and refurbishment.
- Identify, repair, or replace worn or damaged transformer parts.
- Clean and treat transformer cores, coils, and tanks using appropriate chemicals and processes.
- Reprocess transformer oil and refill or refinish tanks as needed.
- Conduct electrical and mechanical testing to ensure refurbished units meet industry standards.
- Prepare transformers for repainting, labeling, and final inspection.
- Complete accurate documentation, including refurbishment reports and test logs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; trade school or technical certificate in electrical repair is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of transformer components, wiring diagrams, and testing methods.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, lifting equipment, and electrical test instruments.
- Comfortable working with insulating oils and handling energized components under strict safety procedures.
- Welding certification required.
- Familiarity with vacuum drying, oil purification, and tank welding or repair techniques is an asset.
- Ability to troubleshoot both electrical and mechanical faults.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
