Description
The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Pool Service Technician for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs, to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for someone to perform a wide variety of duties related to maintaining the City’s Aquatics facilities, pools, water slides and property. Swimming experience is desired. Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an interview either in person, or via ZOOM. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.
- Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours per week, year-round, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings.
- Please note that shift preference is notguaranteed and is based on the program's staffing needs and can change at any time. Please keep this in mind when/if you plan to attend school.
- Example Schedule: Monday-Friday (12:00 pm – 4:00 pm) or Saturday/Sunday (9:00 am – 3:00 pm)

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform duties related to the preventative and daily operation of pool systems, equipment and features.
- Test water for chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, hardness, total dissolved solids and cyanuric acid; apply chemicals to ensure safe and healthy water quality consistent with requirements and regulations; maintain required logs.
- Inspect aquatic equipment for leaks, broken or failing equipment, and mechanical repairs.
- Performing cleaning and custodial duties within and surrounding facilities.
- Assist facility users with a variety of customer service needs.
- Set up and breakdown for special events, rentals and swim meets, and and put in Group reservations in its place
- Operate small power tools and equipment.
- Inspect, note and correct safety hazards in and around aquatics facility; refer difficult problems/hazards for more advanced attention and recommend possible solutions.
- Utilize proper safety gear and precautions related to all work performed.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures; render first aid and CPR, if certified, as required.
- Prepare necessary forms and reports.
- Drive and maintain assigned vehicle; notify supervisor of needed repairs.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public.
- Independently complete work in a professional and efficient manner
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Perform semi-skilled and skilled facility maintenance, janitorial and repairs.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Must successfully pass a TB test before an appointment, which is at your own cost.
- Required to submit to a City Fingerprint Background Investigation
- Possession of or ability to acquire CPR and First Aid certificates within 3 (three) months of employment.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.

This is a non-benefited, Temporary position. Temporary employees will only work up to 1,000 hours or less per year.
