MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in forestry and three (3) years of forestry experience; or

A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in forestry and two (2) years of forestry experience.

Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Requires possession of a valid driver license.

JOB DUTIES:

This is a technical position demanding a high degree of forestry background. This individual is responsible for developing and coordinating the total ecosystem and recreation management plan for Seminole State Forest. This individual should exhibit skills in self-motivation and the ability to communicate with the public as well as Division personnel.

Responsible for the supervision of all forest and ecosystem management activities on Seminole State Forest. Activities include but are not limited to supervision of forest inventory (including rare, threatened and endangered plant and animals), timber sales, and all season fire management program, including the prevention and suppression of wildfires, road maintenance, establishment of recreational sites and administration of public safety issues on the State forest. The incumbent must be capable of working independently and cooperatively in gathering, assembling and analyzing data which serves as the basis of making forest management decisions.

Responsible for personnel recruitment, work scheduling, administering supervision/discipline, training, employee performance appraisals, maintenance of related documentation and safety of forest personnel.

Maintains contact with cooperating agencies (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, St. Johns River Water Management District, Department of Environmental Protection, Lake County), environmental groups, forest industry and various forest user groups to ensure cooperative efforts and input into the management of the forest.

Responsible for budgetary control of Seminole State Forest. Includes budget preparation and management, preparing contracts for service, handling timber sales receipts and general budgetary responsibilities.

Maintain proficiency of new and innovative forestry and biological topics, research, endangered species regulations and total ecosystem management techniques.

Responsible for equipment assigned to Seminole State Forest. This may include operation, preventive maintenance, vehicle records, cost analysis and replacement schedules.

Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed. Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation. Assists in the enforcement of Florida's open burning laws and regulations.

Responsible and accountable for managing budget/dollars/resources (staff, vehicles, computers, cell phones, etc.) of any assigned programs in an efficient and accountable manner.

Responsible for ensuring that assigned program areas have operational procedures and processes which result in accountability and compliance with Division and Department policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
