Duties
Examples of Duties Duties:80% Handling, receiving, security, chain of custody and disposal of evidence; 15% - Administrative; 5% - Training.
- Abide by the “Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.”
- Thoroughly know, understand and comply with Agency procedures, rules and operational directives, evidence procedures and chain of custody.
- Receive and maintain custody of all evidence and other property turned into the Evidence Unit Property Section. Take custody of all evidence from central evidence lockers on a daily basis.
- Maintain all records required for the proper storage and disposition of evidence and other property.
- Prepare laboratory submission forms for specific examinations, submit evidence to laboratory, and disseminate results of laboratory findings.
- Release/return property to owners upon receipt of proper authorization for release.
- Release evidence to officers or other authorized personnel for investigation or court.
- Thoroughly know and understand the Florida Statutes pertaining to evidence disposal, records retention and public records.
- Dispose of evidence and other property according to Florida Statutes.
- Use audio and video equipment for making copies. Perform general office work such as typing or keying, filing, answer telephones, etc.
- Keep the work area and equipment in good condition and neat in appearance.
- Assist the Evidence Property Room Supervisor Manager as required.
- Ensure that the security and integrity of all evidence is preserved at all times, and that proper chain of custody is maintained.
- Be alert for conditions or situations which inhibit efficient operation of the Agency or the Forensic Unit and make recommendations for solutions.
- Perform presentation of case evidence to prosecutors and defense attorneys.
- Abide by the “Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.
- Thoroughly know, understand and comply with Agency procedures, rules and operational directives, evidence procedures and chain of custody.
- Perform any additional duties required by the Sheriff or through necessity of situations.
Requirements
JOB PREREQUISITES:Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to follow instructions, organizes own work, and use general office machines.
- Ability to effectively communicate information, both oral and written.
- Ability to handle confidential matters without compromising confidentiality.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Ability to use computer for data entry and retrieval.
- Ability to work harmoniously with the public and other Agency personnel.
- Proficiency in English language grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
