Business Developer – Commercial Landscaping
Position Summary
The Business Developer is responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying, developing, and securing new commercial landscaping opportunities. This position builds strong relationships with prospective clients, develops a pipeline of qualified opportunities, and works closely with operations and leadership to deliver landscape solutions that meet customer needs.
The ideal candidate is a motivated relationship builder with strong sales skills and an understanding of the commercial landscaping industry. This role requires a proactive approach to prospecting, networking, proposal development, and closing new business.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
· Identify and pursue new commercial landscaping opportunities within assigned markets.
· Develop new business for commercial landscape maintenance, enhancements, installations, irrigation, and other company services.
· Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified prospects and sales opportunities.
· Prospect through cold calling, email outreach, networking, referrals, industry events, and community involvement.
· Develop relationships with property managers, facility managers, HOAs, general contractors, developers, municipalities, and other commercial decision-makers.
· Conduct site visits and meet with prospective clients to understand their landscaping needs and service expectations.
· Prepare and present proposals, bids, and service recommendations.
· Negotiate contract terms and close new business opportunities.
· Meet or exceed established sales and revenue goals.
Relationship Management
· Build long-term relationships with prospective and new customers.
· Serve as a professional representative of the company in the local business community.
· Maintain regular communication with prospects throughout the sales process.
· Identify opportunities to expand services and increase revenue with new and existing relationships.
· Participate in networking events, trade associations, property management organizations, and other industry groups.
Estimating & Proposal Development
· Partner with operations and estimating teams to develop accurate scopes of work and competitive pricing.
· Review property specifications, service requirements, and customer expectations.
· Ensure proposals clearly communicate the company’s value, capabilities, and service standards.
· Participate in proposal presentations and contract negotiations as needed.
Sales Pipeline & Reporting
· Maintain accurate and timely records of prospects, opportunities, proposals, and sales activity in the company’s CRM or sales tracking system.
· Provide regular updates on pipeline activity, sales forecasts, and business development results.
· Track key performance indicators, including leads generated, proposals submitted, close rates, contract value, and new revenue.
· Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and potential growth opportunities.
New Customer Transition
· Coordinate with operations and account management teams to ensure a smooth transition from sales to service.
· Clearly communicate contract scope, customer expectations, pricing, and special requirements.
· Participate in new customer kickoff meetings when appropriate.
· Support strong customer relationships during the initial stages of new contracts.
Qualifications
· 3+ years of business development, outside sales, or account management experience; commercial landscaping experience strongly preferred.
· Proven ability to generate leads, develop relationships, and close new business.
· Knowledge of commercial landscape maintenance, enhancements, irrigation, or landscape installation is preferred.
· Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
· Ability to read and understand scopes of work, contracts, and bid specifications.
· Strong organizational and time-management skills.
· Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a results-driven environment.
· Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and other business software.
· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout the assigned market.
