Director of Safety, Risk & Compliance

MetroLagoons
Tampa, FL
Reinvent Your Day Outdoors

MetroLagoons operates large-scale, resort-style lagoon destinations delivering premium guest experiences in high-volume, public-facing environments. As we continue expanding across Florida, we are building the infrastructure required to scale safely, confidently, and responsibly.

SUMMARY:

The Director of Safety, Risk & Compliance is the corporate leader responsible for safeguarding our guests, team members, and brand.

This executive-level role oversees safety standards, security strategy, regulatory compliance, incident command, and insurance risk management across multiple lagoon properties. The Director builds systems, not just responses—ensuring consistent execution, operational readiness, and defensible risk practices as the organization grows.

This is a highly visible, field-oriented leadership position requiring operational presence during peak periods and major events. Located at our corporate office in Tampa, you will travel to our lagoon and other locations as needed.

Why This Role Matters

As MetroLagoons continues expanding, this position establishes the enterprise foundation for safe growth. It strengthens brand trust, protects our people and guests, reduces litigation exposure, and enables confident scale.

This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a safety executive who wants to build something enduring in a fast-growing organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enterprise Safety Leadership

  • Develop and implement company-wide safety and security standards
  • Establish and maintain SOPs covering aquatic safety, emergency response, alcohol-related incidents, severe weather, crowd management, and evacuation protocols
  • Lead property-level safety reviews and executive reporting
  • Make recommendations on safety compliance standards and risk mitigation strategies

Incident Command & Risk Management

  • Own the enterprise Incident Command System (ICS) framework
  • Oversee incident reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking
  • Coordinate with legal counsel, insurance carriers, and third-party investigators
  • Manage claims lifecycle and drive measurable reductions in incident frequency and severity

Compliance & Audit Oversight

  • Design and execute structured safety audits across all locations
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, health department regulations, alcohol service laws, and aquatic safety standards
  • Maintain defensible documentation practices
  • Lead readiness efforts for inspections and regulatory reviews

Insurance & Enterprise Risk Strategy

  • Serve as corporate liaison with insurance brokers and carriers
  • Support underwriting reviews and renewal negotiations
  • Track claims performance and cost trends
  • Provide executive-level risk dashboards and analysis

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • 6+ years of progressive leadership experience in safety, risk management, or compliance
  • Multi-site experience in hospitality, resort, theme parks, water parks, entertainment, or other high-liability environments
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, incident command systems, insurance claims processes, and security risk assessment
  • Demonstrated success reducing liability exposure and improving compliance outcomes

Preferred

  • CSP, ARM, CPP, or related professional certifications
  • Experience in aquatic or resort-style operations
  • Crisis management and emergency response leadership background
  • Experience supporting rapid growth or multi-site expansion

Leadership Profile

We are seeking a decisive, systems-oriented leader who:

  • Maintains composure under pressure
  • Builds structure and accountability
  • Thinks proactively rather than reactively
  • Operates comfortably in both executive and field environments
  • Influences cross-functional leaders without bureaucratic friction

BENEFITS:

Medical/Dental/Vision, 401(k), Employee Discount Program, including Lagoon entry, F&B/Merchandise discounts, phone and car allowance and more!

Competitive salary with incentive available
