MLB & Associates, hiring for our client, a growing publicly traded electrical contractor with offices in Leesburg, FL and work in the high voltage utility space (Transmission, Substation and Distribution) is looking for a Project Controls Specialist .
The Project Controls Specialist will be responsible for financial operations, working with Project Managers, Operations Managers, Administrative Personnel, and Corporate Controllers across Substation, Transmission, and Distribution projects for Florida and Puerto Rico to meet strategic deliverables.
This role entails implementing real-time project cost reporting systems to track, monitor, analyze, and report progress. The Project Control Specialist will be responsible for accurately capturing, tracking, and measuring a wide range of financial, budgetary, and cost-related data to meet the requirements of project accounting, monthly and quarterly forecasts, monthly closes, and client expectations.
The ideal candidate will be a high-performing, critical thinker who is analytical and experienced. They should be an initiative-taker with excellent leadership skills. Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as outstanding customer service skills, are essential. Additionally, they must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. This position involves close collaboration with senior management, as well as frequent interaction with internal and external customer representatives.
This position will require up to 15% travel including travel to Puerto Rico.
Job Skills/Duties:
- Work with Operations and Accounting to ensure proper consideration and execution of job setup based on the contract terms, billing, and internal reporting and performance management requirements.
- Ensure completeness of cost, billing, and contract value modifications through interaction with transaction processing teams and project controls teams.
- Serve as accounting liaison to project operations, providing deep functional knowledge of project objectives, risks, strategies, and performance expectations.
- Assist the CFO to ensure the completeness and accuracy of monthly project forecasts.
- Manage, track, and report project costs and accruals to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Prepare, manage, and update project budgets, budget transfers, forecasts, variances, and other updates.
- Assist with monthly progress and management reports.
- Support monthly project reviews to help ensure that all contractual and performance risks and issues are properly addressed.
- Contribute to process improvement for project controls, project reviews, project accounting, and reporting.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
- Self-starter who can work independently while supporting the needs of the team.
- Knowledge of cost engineering, forecasting, and budget management.
- Understanding of the project work breakdown structure (WBS) for Substation, Transmission, and Distribution projects.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities; capable of managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Sound decision-making and critical thinking skills.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years of project accounting/project controls experience with multi-year design and construction projects >$100M, specifically within substation, transmission, and distribution projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Construction Science/Management, Engineering, or a related field is required. Equivalent work experience, or a combination of work and education, may also be considered as a substitute.
- Project Accounting/Project Controls experience with multi-year design and construction projects, specifically within the EPC space > $100M.
- Advanced skills in Excel.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally to all levels of the organization.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
