Broward Service Journalism Reporter (Miami)

McClatchy Media is looking for a collaborative, audience-focused service journalism reporter to join our expanding coverage in Broward County, with a focus on hyperlocal storytelling that informs, connects, and empowers our community.

This reporter will:

• Use social listening tools and engagement platforms to surface real-time reader questions and needs.
• Report and write timely, practical stories that help readers navigate life in South Florida.
• Build and manage a library of evergreen, search-optimized content.
• Should approach AI as a partner in journalism, using tools for research, story discovery, workflow efficiency and audience analysis while upholding editorial integrity.
• Help us expand our reach to diverse, multilingual audiences and broaden our service to the community.

The ideal candidate has a proven record of writing lively, engaging stories that put readers first, and brings expertise in audience growth, SEO best practices, and innovative headline writing.
A background working on an audience or service journalism team at a local news outlet is a strong plus.

• Proficiency in SEO, social media engagement, and digital publishing tools.
• Interest in exploring alternative formats (guides, explainers, newsletters, FAQs) and multimedia storytelling.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and give and receive feedback.
• While not required, language skills in Spanish, Portuguese, or French/Creole are highly valued in South Florida's diverse communities.

What you'll do:

• This is a day shift position that may include evening and weekend work as needed.
• This position is based in South Florida and involves a hybrid schedule: working from home and from our Miami newsroom, with a strong expectation of gathering news at the scene.
• Proficiency with AP style, grammar, and punctuation.
• Bachelors degree or equivalent relevant experience.
