Job Summary: Responsible to perform heavy vehicle maintenance as well as weld and fabrication duties in renovating customer equipment to include training and supervising Inmate Workers on technical aspects and meeting customer expectations and timelines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Achieve organization goals and objectives by organizing and monitoring the efficient development and timely completion of multiple vehicle renovation projects.
- Upon receipt of vehicle and the customer proposal, read and understand the scope of work involved. Develop a list of parts, raw materials and supplies that will be required for completion in the supervisor’s department(s). Assign inmate worker to the project tasks.
- Develop project schedule based on the project scope of work and those of other projects in the shop. Monitor work, enforce productivity standards, resolve operational problems, and implement new procedures.
- Train Inmate Workers in the tools and techniques required for the department’s operations as well as any applicable machinery in the shop. This training should include all applicable environmental and occupational safety standards, and the quality standards appropriate in the automotive industry.
- Control expenses by monitoring variances in projects and budgets and implementing corrective actions.
- Participate in all of the day-to-day activities required for the operation of the industry such as vehicle movement, receiving incoming purchased material, control of all tools and caustic substances.
- Communicate with customer representatives while in the shop to monitor project progress.
- Other assigned duties as deemed needed by Industry Manager.
- Working closely with DC personnel to ensure compliance with institution rules and regulations in the performance of shipping and receiving.
Education and Experience: HS diploma or equivalent required, + 2 years supervisory experience. Mechanical aptitude and ability, and some manufacturing experience helpful.
Language Skills: Good verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
Mathematical Skills: Basic math skills.
Reasoning Ability: Training Inmates in production and clerical techniques and coordinating manpower and equipment usage.
Specialized Knowledge and/or Skill: Acquire FDC training to supervise Inmate Workers and have basic computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
Other Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills with effective personal time management; honest, dependable, professional, adaptable, and pleasant to work with.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to fumes or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud – the dust level is moderate.
Principal Contacts: All departments, Industry Manager, Production Manager, classification, maintenance, security, vendors, customers, Inmate Workers, and some FDC staff.
