Senior Production Designer Entertainment
Scope of Job:
LEGOLAND Resorts North America Entertainment is seeking a multi-skilled Senior Production Designer to join the team. The North America Entertainment team serves as the strategic pipeline of strategy, creation and development of CORE & LIMITED TIME show, event, and experience offerings at LEGOLAND Parks.
The Senior Production Designer leads the creative design team in all design and execution phases of show, event, and experienced-related theming elements. As a core member of the creative team, the Senior Production Designer is innovative and can provide various crafty approaches to deliver the project vision and business objectives of brand, schedule, and budget. They will interface with other creative contributors and be part of the creative development process from blue sky through execution.
This role serves as a resource expert - aiding resort teams in execution of the production process and serving as a design support resource. They will influence design synergies amongst (3) LEGOLAND Resorts, uplevel overall art direction while directly impacting economics of scale and overall show quality.
Key Objectives:
- Drive the creative artistry & concept development of the multi-year North American Entertainment strategy.
- Actively participate in key roles such as Production Designer, Art Director, Graphic Producer, and Planner during Creative and Production processes.
- Act as liaison for resource sharing in product, asset, and process applications.
- Consistently evaluate, audit, and identify opportunities of thematic improvements to continually innovate the Entertainment offerings.
Main Responsibilities:
- Serves as project lead for all thematic, scenic, and graphic design elements during Conceptual, Pre-Production and Production phases of North American lead Entertainment initiatives
- Lead and participate in the design process of show sets, event zone theming, graphic artwork, facades and other design support functions for shows, events, and experiences.
- Work hand-in-hand with the Senior Creative Manager and Entertainment Director in adding art to showcase the creative visions through conceptual and design phases utilizing various design mediums
- Produce design drawing and art rendering packages for Entertainment toolkit and scope of work documents for fabrication with internal and external partners.
- Make recommendations about materials and construction direction to deliver on artistic vision
- Act in field as Art Director - aiding local installation and consultation to deliver on creative intent and overall vision
- Manage all design team projects to ensure schedule of delivery aligns with production timelines,. Engaging additional resource as required
- Utilize skills, resources, and tools to provide informed estimations to key stake holders and manage all processes of information resourcing during the estimation process.
- Travel to local LEGOLAND Park sites and participate in local strategy and feedback sessions
- Provide support as a resource for problem solving and seek to synergize business areas for the most optimized operation.
- Actively participate in 3-year North American Entertainment planning & development sessions
- Serve on the production team working with outside North America partners such as the LEGO® Group and Global Merlin Internal Product Development Teams in relation to additional Global Core or Seasonal Entertainment innovation initiatives.
Background and Experience:
- (5+) Years proven experience designing for theatrical or theme park entertainment live show performance and seasonal events in core areas of theming, scenic, and graphic design.
- Must be a creative thinker and problem solver with strong technical ability in various design techniques such as show set, scenic design, theming & decor, art direction, drafting, 3D modelling and/or other areas of design.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with proven ability to direct teams while serving as active designer in order to deliver projects on strict deadlines.
- Must have familiarity with all production, technical, and operational aspects of live show and seasonal event development
- Must have strong partnering, collaborative, and team management skills.
- Ability to work within Vectorworks, CAD Style Programs, Microsoft & Adobe software products.
- Must be a self-starter and able to work effectively in drilling down high level vision into concept review

- Ability to travel in the United States. Passport preferred with limited international travel.
- Ability to work days, nights, and over holidays to support Peak and Off-Peak Entertainment offerings across all Resort functions.
- Demonstrated initiative, communication and interpersonal skills; Confident and outgoing presence with the ability to professionally interact with various levels of team members and leadership.
People:
Manager and employees will have consistent communication and meetings with this role (i.e. schedules, payroll, and training). Promote and demonstrate LEGO's and Merlin's culture and core values through words and actions. Ensure adherence to policies and procedures, effectively managing and documenting employee relations.
Health & Safety:

In particular, they must ensure that they follow safe working procedures for all work activities that they undertake and they must not use any tools or equipment for which they have not been trained. Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are reported to their line manager and must cooperate with any investigation as appropriate.
Managers/supervisors are responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety & Security within their team, in line with the Group Policy (HS001). In particular, they must ensure that risk assessments have been carried out, that safe working procedures are in place for all work activities and that all employees in their teams are aware of the Group Health, Safety and Security Policy and their obligations under it. They must ensure that safe working practices are monitored and that risk assessments and procedures are reviewed regularly. Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are investigated appropriately and that where necessary, corrective action is taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in theatre/performing arts or related field or equivalent professional experience within Entertainment/Theatre industry.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit for sustained periods of time, to attend on-site and off-site meetings, perform paperwork activities, travel and drive.
- Intermittent and prolonged standing and walking to move about the park site, and interact with employees.
- Finger dexterity sufficient to complete paperwork activities and to use a computer.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read written materials, to complete paperwork activities, and to drive.
- Hearing sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.
- Must be able to work in varying temperatures, climates inside and outside, as well as in direct and indirect sunlight.
Work Environment:
- Various inside and outside locations with varying temperatures and floor surfaces.
- Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
Other Job Requirements:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings & weekends to support Resort operations.
- Attendance is a mandatory function of this job.
