Junior Accountant
Pay: $60,000 to $70,000 per year PLUS Excellent Benefits Job Summary The primary responsibilities of this position include providing financial and administrative support to the Clerk & Comptroller’s Office by assisting with routine accounting tasks, maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, policies, and contracts. This role is ideal for professionals with a strong interest in government accounting and public service. The Junior Accountant will perform tasks such as data entry, report preparation, and support senior finance staff with routine accounting / financial management responsibilities. Essential Job Functions
The list of essential functions as outlined below is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this role. Other duties not included in this list may be assigned if management determines it is a logical assignment for the position.
• Assist with the preparation and maintenance of financial records, including general ledgers, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
• Perform data entry and maintain accurate documentation of all transactions in accordance with record-keeping policies.
• Support month-end and year-end close-out processes.
• Prepare and submit journal entries with proper documentation and approval.
• Review and verify the accuracy of invoices, purchase orders, and other accounting documents.
• Assist in preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders, including financial statements and audits.
• Respond to inquiries from departments, vendors, and the public regarding financial matters.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with applicable statutes, policies, and financial regulations.
• Support audit preparations by providing requested documentation and reports.
• Possess a keen attention to detail and exhibit a high level of professionalism.
• Other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Qualifications
• Basic understanding of accounting principles (GAAP preferred)
• Familiarity with fund accounting or governmental accounting systems
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Good interpersonal skills and the desire to work in a team environment.
• Accurate keyboarding and data entry skills.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time while concentrating on repetitious or complex tasks.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Ability to work in a typical office environment; may require extended hours during audits or fiscal year close outs. Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• 1-2 years of experience in accounting; governmental accounting experience is a plus. Benefits
