About the Role:

We’re looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join our team and take ownership of full-cycle payroll processing while supporting key accounting functions. This role is payroll-focused but also offers the opportunity to contribute to general ledger work, bookkeeping, and audit preparation.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing high-volume payroll for mid-sized organizations (500–1,000 employees), along with a strong grasp of payroll systems, compliance requirements, and reporting best practices.

You’ll collaborate in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, discretion, and reliability are essential.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Payroll – 40%

  • Process payroll on a weekly and/or bi-weekly schedule for 500–1,000 employees
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, deductions, and timekeeping compliance
  • Coordinate with HR to ensure all employee changes (new hires, terminations, pay adjustments) are correctly reflected in payroll
  • Ensure all payroll tax filings, benefit deductions, and other withholdings are processed correctly and on time
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and management
  • Prepare and review payroll reports for internal use and audits
  • ADP (Workforce Now or similar)

2. General Ledger (GL) Accounting – 30%

  • Prepare and post journal entries related to payroll and other recurring entries
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations for payroll-related GL accounts
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close, ensuring all payroll-related entries are accurate and complete
  • Support internal and external audit requests related to payroll, benefits, and related liabilities
  • Sage Intacct and Excel
  • Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced proficiency preferred)

3. General Bookkeeping – 30%

  • Record cash and bank account activity, ensuring all transactions are accurately captured
  • Assist with bank reconciliations
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate financial records in coordination with the accounting team
  • Identify and suggest areas for automation or improved efficiency in daily bookkeeping
  • Bill.com for vendor payments and expense tracking
  • Familiarity with other accounting tools a plus
  • While Accounts Payable/Receivable (AP/AR) is not a primary focus, you may occasionally assist or collaborate on AP/AR-related tasks

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, preferred.
  • 3–5+ years of relevant experience in payroll accounting, preferred
  • Hands-on experience with ADP, Bill.com, and Sage Intacct
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax compliance, and general accounting principles
  • Ability to process payroll for 500–1,000 employees
  • Experience supporting audits and month/year-end close
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations)
