Senior Substance Use Prevention Specialist

Position Summary: The Senior Substance Use Prevention Specialist (Contract Position) provides leadership and oversight within the Duval County Jail System. This role includes screening potential clients, conducting substance abuse prevention education, and supervising Substance Abuse Prevention Specialists and Court Liaisons. The position requires a professional with expertise in substance use prevention, team supervision, and familiarity with the criminal justice system. Key Responsibilities: Supervise, schedule, and conduct substance abuse and related educational classes. Oversee client screenings for admission to the Modified Therapeutic Community. Provide referrals and program information as needed. Supervise and support Substance Abuse Prevention Specialists and Court Liaisons. Maintain effective working relationships with Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Public Defenders, State Attorneys, Judiciary, and other criminal justice providers. Lead weekly staff education meetings and assist with administrative tasks. Prepare and oversee monthly reports and documentation. Ensure timely and accurate recording of clinical services in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Participate in internal training programs and quality improvement efforts. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. At least five (5) years of combined education, training, or experience in social work, criminal justice, or related fields. Supervisory or management experience preferred. Eligible for Level 2 DCF Background Clearance. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong communication and leadership skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience working effectively with diverse populations. Professional and tactful in handling confidential information. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Proficient in EHR documentation and compliance standards. Additional Information: This is a contract position ; contract length and terms will be discussed upon hiring. Work is based within the Duval County Jail System.
