Drill Locator

The Drill Locator is responsible for tracking the drill head during underground boring operations to ensure accurate installation of utilities such as fiber, gas, electric, water, or sewer lines. This position plays a critical safety role by preventing utility strikes, maintaining bore alignment, and communicating precise depth and direction information to the Drill Operator. This position is open to candidates living anywhere in the United States. The role requires travel to project sites nationwide on a full-time basis. Estero, FL is our corporate office location.

Description

• Locate and track the drill head using electronic locating equipment
• Communicate real-time depth, pitch, and steering information to the Drill Operator
• Interpret bore plans, utility locates, and job specifications
• Verify underground utility markings prior to drilling
• Monitor drilling fluid returns and ground conditions
• Assist with locating underground utilities and potholing operations
• Ensure bore stays within design tolerances and ROW limits
• Follow OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies
• Document bore paths and depth for bore logs and as-built information
• Maintain locating equipment and batteries
• Support jobsite setup, traffic control, and cleanup
• Report hazards, utility conflicts, or unsafe conditions immediately

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Experience in HDD locating, utility locating, or underground construction required
• Ability to read construction drawings and profiles, understand locate marks
• Attention to detail and situational awareness
• Willingness to travel or work overtime as needed

Preferred Skills

• Experience with DigiTrak, Subsite, or similar locating systems
• Ability to read construction drawings and locate marks
• First Aid/CPR
• Railroad or roadway safety training
• Confined space or excavation safety training

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors near active roadways or railroads in various weather conditions and on active construction sites
• Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs
• Prolonged periods of driving, walking, standing, bending, and using hands/tools
• Exposure to noise, dust, mud, and weather
• Must wear required PPE on job sites and adhere to safety protocols
