Special Needs Supervisor

The Dave & Mary Alper JCC Miami is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Needs Supervisor to join our team. This is a seasonal, benefits-ineligible position that plays a key role in supporting inclusive youth programming through staff supervision, family engagement, and intake coordination.

The role begins as a part-time seasonal position leading up to summer and transitions to increased hours of up to 40 hours per week during the summer program period, based on program needs.

Position Structure:

• Seasonal, temporary position.
• Part-time leading up to summer.
• Up to 40 hours per week during the summer months; hours are not guaranteed and may vary week to week.
• Some evenings and weekends required based on program needs.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise, train, and support staff working with children with special needs in after-school, camp, and youth programs.
• Conduct intake meetings with families, gather relevant information, and help assess appropriate program placement and support needs.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for families regarding intakes, accommodations, and ongoing program participation.
• Collaborate with educators, program leaders, and parents to support children’s social, emotional, and developmental growth.
• Assist staff with behavior management strategies and ensure consistent implementation across programs.
• Support the development and enhancement of inclusive programming, activities, and schedules.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable Florida DCF licensing requirements, organizational policies, and safety procedures.
• Support inclusion across Camp, Mini Camps, and other youth programs.
• Address and resolve parent or staff concerns in a timely, professional manner.
• Communicate regularly with leadership to ensure smooth program operations.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
• Completion of Florida DCF 40-Hour Child Care Training or ability to complete required coursework within the mandated timeframe upon hire.
• ESE Teaching Certification or RBT Certification preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in special needs programming, including leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong organizational and communication skills; fluency in English required; Spanish a plus.
• Comfort working directly with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to lead staff, manage sensitive conversations, and maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CampMinder and Daxko a plus.
• Ability to work occasional nights and weekends as needed.

Physical & ADA Requirements:

• Ability to bend, sit, squat, reach overhead, and walk across campus throughout the day.
• Ability to spend extended time outdoors in heat or rain.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Ability to set up and break down program spaces, including moving tables, chairs, and carts.
• Ability to stand for more than two hours at a time and work in bent or twisted postures as needed.
• Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
