Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in specialty License: Valid RN license required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred Must-Have: Candidates must have at least 1 year of experience in the specialty with previous travel experience. Description: Unit contains a small community healthcare system with approximately 100 licensed beds. The usual occupancy is around 88 beds. The facility is continually growing and expanding. It is a non-trauma teaching facility with medical students and local nursing students present. No additional on-site testing is required. IV pumps utilized are Baxter Sigma. Cardiac monitoring systems are in use. The medication dispensing system is Omnicell. The electronic medical record system is user-friendly and easy to learn. Orientation includes receiving a pre-orientation packet with policies and procedures. Nurses will clock in and out using the hospital system. Travelers are required to have supervisors sign time cards. Housing is available nearby for travelers. The unit provides patient care for both medical surgical and telemetry needs. Ratios for medical surgical nursing typically range from 1 to 6, with a maximum of 1 to 7 on rare occasions. When staffing returns to normal, the ratios in the stepdown unit will be 1 to 4. Charge nurses are available on day shifts, while evening shifts may have one. There is no charge nurse on night shifts; instead, a senior nurse oversees operations. Patient care technicians are present to assist nurses. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. Holiday staffing will integrate travelers into the permanent staff holiday rotation. Preferred scrub color is navy, but black or gray is acceptable. Telemonitoring occurs remotely, and nurses are not required to read or interpret cardiac strips. Common medications include insulin, cardizem, and amiodarone, with infrequent titration per protocol. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 for managing challenges but vents are not present on this unit. Pharmacy services are not provided around the clock. All travelers are required to float to the stepdown unit as necessary, with assignments based on skill set. General orientation includes a shift for setting up logins, ID badges, and familiarizing with charting systems. The facility has a cancellation policy allowing for cancellation of up to 2 shifts during the 13-week period. Charting is conducted via an adopted electronic system.
