Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for specialized clerical work under the direct supervision of the Community Health Workers Supervisior III. (pending class title change)

Complies with all WIC and DOH policies, operating procedures and directives, in accordance with DHM 150-24.

Operates the FL-WiSE computer terminals/scanners/signature pads/card readers/pin pads: interviews participants for demographics, WIC income eligibility and immunizations; issues benefits, special formula and EBT cards. Answers calls professionally by using department’s opening and closing statements. Answers and processes all incoming calls with the purpose of providing WIC related information as requested. Provides excellent customer service . Independently assesses and screens existing and potential WIC participants, verifies client status, schedules, and reschedules client appointments. Ensures clients receive earliest appointment in accordance with WIC client processing standards. Communicates concerns regarding local site appointment available to site supervisor as appropriate. Refers calls to WIC site supervisors, health department services or community assistance agencies. Instructs participants on redemption procedures, rights and obligations, program procedures, vendor/participant concerns. Provides interactive newsletter contact and voter registration compliance. Assists with summarizing client satisfaction surveys. Updates WIC participant demographics in FL-Shots system as needed. Participates in completion of weekly and monthly inventory of EBT cards, Special Formula and breastfeeding equipment, and office supply orders. Assists with completing assigned programmatic reports such as Client eligible for benefits, No show reports and others. Completes precertification screen for anyone walking in and requesting a WIC appointment. Adheres to all WIC regulations, policies and procedures set forth in DHM 150-24, and other guides and manuals designated for the position.

HEALTH SUPPORT:

Collects and records medical data (height/length, weight and hemoglobin levels) of WIC clients in accordance with DHM 150-24. Transcribes all medical data to the FL-WiSE system. Completes the Lab/Anthro screen with proper measurement conversions for women, infants, and children. Reviews client’s immunization records and documents information in the Immunization/Blood work screen of the FL-WiSE system in accordance with DHM 150-24 and manuals. Calibrates hematological and anthropometric equipment per DHM 150-24 manual, when needed. Properly maintains bio-hazardous materials according to FDOH and CHD requirements. Follows FDOH and Hendry CHD policies regarding prevention of blood borne pathogen transmission. Cleans electric breast pumps returned to the site per department policy and records cleaning.

NUTRITION QUESTIONNAIRES/ BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT:

Documents responses to intake nutrition history in the FL-WiSE System. Stays abreast of current breastfeeding information; promotes breastfeeding services; celebrates breastfeeding success; avoids any action that may undermine client’s breastfeeding success; maintains a breastfeeding-friendly work area. Distributes/Tracks breast pumps and may assist with instruction to clients on the use of manual breast pumps.

ADMINISTRATION:

Travel to all sites may be involved in the performance of duties. This position may serve clients that speak only Spanish, Creole or other languages. It may require performance of interpreter duties, if bi-lingual, or implementation of the Department’s Limited English Proficiency Plan. Must record the method of interpretation use. Meets deadline for submission of HMS, timesheets, mileage Pre- Authorization, Mileage submissions, trainings and other items requested. Attends staff meetings and in-service training programs. May participate in outreach activities. Performs related duties as required by supervisor.

Working hours: (A) Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

(B)Total hours in workweek: 40 Hours

Qualifications:

  • Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License.
  • The ability to perform hemoglobin testing (training provided) on clients is required.
  • Must be willing to work at other WIC satellite clinics as needed.
  • Must be willing to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent of this position includes working in Special Needs or Red Cross Shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
