Medical Accounts Receivable Specialist
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our healthcare finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing the collection of outstanding patient accounts and insurance reimbursements, ensuring the financial health of our organization while providing excellent service to our patients and insurance partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and manage the accounts receivable aging reports to identify overdue accounts
- Follow up with insurance companies and patients to resolve billing issues and expedite payments
- Process and post payments, adjustments, and denials accurately in the billing system
- Reconcile accounts and prepare reports on collection activities and outstanding balances
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve billing discrepancies
- Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and billing policies
- Assist in the development and implementation of collection strategies to improve cash flow
Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in medical accounts receivable, billing, or collections
- Knowledge of healthcare billing procedures, insurance processes, and coding (ICD, CPT)
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations such as HIPAA
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Proficiency in medical billing software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

Required Skills:
- Good communications skills.
- Requires strong basic mathematical skills.
- Requires a minimum typing speed of forty (40) words per minute and ten-key by touch.
- Requires an extensive working knowledge of managed care networks and insurance carriers.
- Requires an extensive working knowledge of accounts receivable functions including CPT and ICD-9 coding.
- Requires proficiency in general office automation including operation of fax machines, copy machines, adding machines, postage machines, and multi-line phone systems.
- Requires proficiency in working with a PC, the Internet, and MS Windows.
- Requires a good understanding of the current Medicare Compliance, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
- Requires a high degree of organization
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma
- 1 year Experience in healthcare accounts receivable

- Abilities in planning, organizing, delegating, and supervising.
- Abilities in evaluating the effectiveness of existing methods and procedures.
- Abilities in problem solving.
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to read, concentrate, interpret, analyze information and apply to procedures -
- Ability to set priorities among multiple requests, keep organized, and adjust to change
- Ability to interact with patients, medical and administrative staff, and the public effectively
Equipment Operated:
- Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
Work Environment:
- Position is in a well-lighted office environment with moderate noise.
Physical Requirements:
- Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder
- Continuous use of hands for keyboarding and data entry
Performance Requirements:
- Attendance onsite mandatory
- Ability to maintain work schedule and handle stamina throughout the day with work flow
- Ability to handle confidential information
- Ability to meet deadlines, adjust to changing requirements, and stress
