Switchboard Operator On Call

OVERVIEW:
Operate the switchboard by relaying incoming, outgoing, and inter-facility calls by performing the duties listed below. Receives Residents and guests and directs them to the proper area. Perform minor administrative duties. Blood and body fluids exposure: Category III.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Keeps confidential all information not specifically authorized to be given to others.
- Maintains a professional image.
- Calls Nurse and Security in emergency situations.
- Uses private branch exchange (PBX) switchboard to connect interoffice and house calls.
- Understands the Operation of the annunciator panels, fire protection system and Security Access System.
- Relays emergency information to Fire Department and/or security monitoring company as well as the Village Security in event of fire alarm.
- Keeps constant communication with Security, Nurses Stations and Administration during fire alarms.
- Knowledge of proper procedures for fire, disaster, and emergencies.
- Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls and verbal communication.
- Supplies information to callers and records messages.
- Keeps record of long distance calls placed through the switchboard.
- Documents occurrences in the Status Report and/or Operator's Notes.
- Checks visitors in guest units and issues keys for guest units.
- Monitors the issuing and return of the Guest Room keys, luggage rack, shopping cart, and wheelchairs.
- Contacts Residents who have not eaten in the Dining Room immediately upon receipt of their meal ticket. Notifies Security if no answer.
- Maintains logs and reports as required.
- Places printed material and monthly statements in Resident's boxes as requested by Administrative Staff.
- May be required to distribute mail, medications, or other items to Residents or their designee.
- Sells guest meal tickets to visitors and Residents. Collects monies or designates payment to be billed to the appropriate Resident.
- Operates walkie-talkie radio.
- Greets visitors, obtains names, and nature of business verbally; directs them to the appropriate person or area.
- Balances cash box at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Must maintain a professional relationship with Resident Volunteers.
- Observes and follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Observes and follows infection control policies and procedures.
- Attends all mandatory inservices as required.
- Demonstrates positive guest relations to internal and external customers.
- Team Members are required to report to their Department Director all incidents of actual or possible abuse of a Resident that they become aware of. Abuse in this respect includes, but is not limited to, verbal, sexual, physical, and/or mental abuse, corporal punishment, involuntary seclusion, neglect, and/or any misappropriation of property concerning St. Mark Village Residents. Team Members will make the report as soon as possible after they become aware of the incident of actual or possible abuse.
- May be assigned other related duties and responsibilities as required by the Administrative Services Manager or Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED SKILL, EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILL:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to communicate effectively with Resident, other Staff members, and visitors. Must have a clear speaking voice.

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to sit while talking or listening. The Team Member is occasionally required to use hands and arms to finger, handle, or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
