Position Overview

This is an excellent opportunity to practice in a collaborative, high‑quality oncology program within a well‑established hospital setting that emphasizes patient‑centered care, clinical excellence, and multidisciplinary team‑based treatment.

You will join a comprehensive cancer team with access to modern technology, strong clinical support, and an environment that encourages clinical growth, program development, and quality improvement.

About the Hospital and Cancer Program

North Shore Medical Center is an acute care facility dedicated to providing high‑quality, compassionate healthcare to the South Florida community. The radiation oncology department delivers advanced, evidence‑based cancer care supported by state‑of‑the‑art technology and a comprehensive quality and safety framework.

Program highlights include:

  • Modern linear accelerators, treatment planning systems, and image‑guided radiation therapy capabilities (e.g., IMRT, VMAT, SBRT, SRS, IGRT, as applicable).
  • A multidisciplinary cancer program integrating radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, dosimetrists, therapists, nurses, and supportive care teams (nutrition, social work, navigation, palliative care).
  • Strong institutional focus on guideline‑driven care, quality management, patient safety, and adherence to national standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Ongoing investment in new technologies, clinical protocols, and program development to enhance outcomes, access, and patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive consultation, evaluation, and management of patients requiring radiation therapy for malignant and selected benign conditions.
  • Formulate and document evidence‑based radiation treatment recommendations in collaboration with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary oncology team.
  • Collaborate closely with medical physicists and dosimetrists in the development, review, and approval of external beam and, where applicable, brachytherapy treatment plans.
  • Participate actively in daily on‑treatment management, including toxicity assessment, symptom management, and supportive care.
  • Conduct and document on‑treatment visits (OTVs) and post‑treatment follow‑up to monitor response, manage side effects, and coordinate survivorship or palliative care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and case conferences, contributing to collaborative treatment planning and implementation of evidence‑based guidelines.
  • Support and help maintain a comprehensive quality and safety culture, including peer review, chart rounds, incident learning, and adherence to departmental policies and protocols.
  • Engage in program development activities, including new clinical services, protocol adoption, and potential involvement in clinical trials or research initiatives as available.
  • Provide education to residents, fellows, medical students, and other staff as applicable regarding radiation oncology principles, indications, and patient care.
  • Comply with hospital bylaws, medical staff rules and regulations, documentation standards, and applicable federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other radiation oncology‑related duties as requested in support of the cancer program's clinical, operational, and strategic goals.

Qualifications & Skills

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an ACGME‑accredited residency in Radiation Oncology.
  • Board eligible or board certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent.
  • Eligibility for, or possession of, an active and unrestricted Florida medical license and DEA.
  • Experience in a hospital‑based or comprehensive cancer center setting preferred; newly trained physicians are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative, multidisciplinary oncology environment and to communicate clearly with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong commitment to patient safety, high‑quality, compassionate care, and adherence to evidence‑based guidelines and regulatory requirements.

Competencies

  • Strong clinical judgment and decision‑making skills with the ability to manage complex oncology cases.
  • Detail‑oriented with a rigorous focus on treatment accuracy, documentation quality, and continuity of care.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, referring physicians, and the broader care team.
  • Ability to manage multiple clinical responsibilities, prioritize effectively, and adapt in a dynamic hospital environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and adoption of evolving technologies, protocols, and best practices in radiation oncology.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Highly competitive compensation package, commensurate with experience, training, and board certification.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, which may include:
    • Paid Time Off (PTO).
    • CME/education allowance and support for conferences and board‑related activities.
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
    • Retirement plan options.
    • Malpractice and professional liability coverage, as applicable.
  • Supportive clinical and administrative leadership with opportunities for long‑term career growth, program development, and involvement in strategic initiatives within HSA and Florida Physician Group.
