Position
Simulation Actor -Family Member and Dependency Attorney Roles in Child Welfare Training
Position Overview
The Simulation Actor will play multiple roles, including family members and Children's Legal Services (CLS) attorneys, in child welfare simulation training sessions. These simulations are crafted to help child welfare professionals gain hands-on experience in realistic, scenario-based settings. Actors will take part in approximately 45-50, 2-3 day simulations annually across various statewide locations, interacting directly with trainees to simulate complex real-world situations. This role requires strong improvisational skills, adaptability, and an understanding of family dynamics and legal processes in the child welfare system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Portray Diverse Roles: Act as various family members (parents, siblings, grandparents, guardians, etc) and Children's Legal Services attorneys in scripted and semi-improvised child welfare scenarios, creating realistic situations for trainees.
- Create Authentic Interactions: Engage with trainees to enhance their skills in family engagement, assessments, legal advocacy, and case management, providing an immersive learning experience that reflects the complexities of child welfare cases.
- Adapt Performances in Real Time: Modify character responses based on trainee actions during the simulation to maintain continuity and authenticity.
- Role-Specific Preparation: For CLS attorney roles, demonstrate basic understanding of courtroom proceedings, legal terminology, and child welfare advocacy principles to provide realistic legal counsel and representation in simulated cases.
- Participate in Feedback and Debriefing: Offer insights on trainee engagement to training facilitators and, when requested, join post-simulation debriefs to discuss trainee performance and scenario effectiveness.
- Statewide Travel: Commit to traveling to various training sites across the state for simulation sessions as scheduled.
Qualifications:
- Acting and Improvisation Experience: Proven experience in acting, especially in role-play, educational, or interactive settings. Experience portraying legal professionals or engaging in complex, multi-role simulations is preferred.
- Understanding of Family Dynamics: Ability to realistically depict family interactions and complexities, as well as emotional sensitivity to portray challenging family circumstances.
- Knowledge of Child Welfare and Legal Procedures (Preferred): Familiarity with child welfare issues, family systems, and basic legal processes in child welfare is a plus but not required.
- Professionalism and Reliability: Dependable, flexible, and capable of adapting to schedule changes, with a commitment to participating in multiple simulations throughout the year.
- Communication and Listening Skills: Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including active listening, with the ability to take direction and collaborate closely with trainers and facilitators.
Compensation and Scheduling:
- Frequency : Expected to participate in approximately 45-50, 2-3 day simulations per year, scheduled in advance.
- Travel Reimbursement : Travel expenses covered for out-of-area simulations.
- Compensation : Compensation is provided on an hourly, $23-$26/hour based on experience
Ideal Candidates Are:
• Passionate about contributing to the professional development of child welfare workers and legal advocates by creating authentic, impactful simulation experiences.
• Skilled in portraying diverse and emotionally complex characters with empathy and sensitivity.
• Comfortable engaging in both family and legal roles, contributing to a comprehensive training environment that strengthens essential child welfare and legal skills.
This role offers a unique opportunity to impact child welfare training by helping professionals develop skills that positively affect children and families across the state.
