Overview:
The Florida Gaming Control Commission (“the Commission”) is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.
The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of nearly 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

The Office of the General Counsel for the Florida Gaming Control Commission is seeking a highly motivated attorney to serve as Special Counsel and Informal Hearing Officer.
Position Duties and Responsibilities :
The Office of the General Counsel supports the Commission by providing legal counsel on all matters under the Commission’s jurisdiction and prosecuting noncompliance with Florida’s gambling laws.
The Special Counsel position is a dynamic role that includes: (I ) providing legal counsel to the Office of the Commissioners regarding the Sunshine Law, including public meeting requirements and public records requests; (II) drafting rules and advising the Commission on the rulemaking process; and (III) serving as an informal hearing officer in regulatory cases brought by the Office of the General Counsel on behalf of the Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering.

Minimum Qualifications :
- Admission to the Florida Bar;
- Two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law or in administrative or judicial hearings; and
- A valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with Florida’s Administrative Procedure Act.
