SEIU Local 1991 is an active, growing, progressive healthcare union based in South Florida. The local currently represents Registered Nurses, physicians, and other professionals at Jackson Health System in Miami. Staff will have the opportunity to become part of building this flagship healthcare local in the South.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc)
• Bachelor’s Degree required

POSITION: Union Representative/Organizer

Under the direction of the Executive Director or designee, the Field Representative/Organizer will be responsible for representing and organizing RNs and other professionals within the Jackson Health System. Major areas of responsibility include contract administration, leadership development, internal organizing and contract campaigns. This staff member will be expected, within an organizing model, to represent workers in all phases of workplace disputes, with an emphasis on teaching stewards and activists to interpret the contract, handle disciplines and grievances, coordinate worksite actions and build member participation. Other responsibilities include the development and maintenance of steward/communication networks and rounding on your units to worksite issues as well as external organizing when necessary.

EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, team player who has some experience within the field of progressive activism and/or organizing. Experience in union organizing and worker representation is preferred. Experience as a rank-and-file steward/activist is desirable, as is experience in the healthcare field or with healthcare workers.
