Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent is responsible for the day to day management and integrity of data entered inthe Surveillance Tools and Reporting System (STARS)for all reportable Sexually Transmitted Diseases(STDs)in the public and private sector. This is an area-wideposition in the STD Surveillance Department which consists of 15counties (Area 3/13). The position in the STD Programrequires independent decision making with minimal supervision. The incumbent has access to the medical records department, HMS (EMR) to review charts and document information on the progress notes and in STARS. The incumbent will also serve as a clinic Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) and may assist with other DIS coverage. Completes timesheets in People First and EARS in HMS in a timely manner as directed by DOH. Incumbent is responsible to communicate regularly with STD Manager/Supervisor.
Place and receive phone calls from private and public reporting sources; gather and document required information regarding client information as needed for reporting morbidity; complete reports; and enter data in tot he STARS system. Receive, date an accurately stamp, input client medical information into the STARS system.
Responsible for processing the lab line lists from Tallahassee (ELRs-Electronic Lab Reports), daily, to include creating Profiles, checking medical records for treatment and other required information, updating information in STARS and HMS, initiating Field Records as needed, and entering data into the STARS system on the computer as appropriate. Responsible for processing labs received electronically, by phone, fax, mail, and e-mail. Primary responsibility for handling the GC/Chlamydia labs as appropriate for the Department. Assigns field records to appropriate staff. Close Field Records and cases in the system as directed in a timely manner.
The incumbent will assist in maintaining a mailing and routing system for all out of area laboratory results received for other districts for reporting purposes. Ensure proper follow-up activity on positive labs for Area 3/13 (15 counties). Forwarding any out of area results to the proper source. Process and posttest results to the medical record updating the STARS system as needed with all appropriate information.
Responsible for interacting with the State Health Office, other health departments, private physicians, laboratories, and other reporting sources to ensure necessary information Is received on positive labs, contacts, suspects, and associates. Routinely answer questions from the public dealing with STD's or ensuring proper referrals.
Responsible for purging /scanning STD files on a routine basis as directed by management, including labs and field investigation records. Responsible for reporting departmental and personnel activities as required.
Scan medical forms/labs into the Electronic Medical Record as needed. Record lab results and documents the need for posttest counseling on the progress note. Document when a HD lab has been reviewed and the status of the case into HMS progress note.
Input all laboratory test results for the STD texting program and Rapid Syphilis testing, including the risk assessments.
Give lab results to clients by phone (excluding HIV) and face to face (including HIV). The incumbent will serve as a backup clinic disease intervention specialist (DIS) for when the DIS are not available. This will include interviewing the client and partner elicitation as needed. Incumbent will complete all training related to this including Passport to Partner Services and HIV 501 classes.
Perform other duties as assigned. May be required to be available in an emergency or disaster situation as designated by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Qualifications: HS Diploma or GED
Minimum - Data entry experience
Experience working a professional office setting
Experience with HIV and STDs
Preferred - experience working in a professional medical office
