Senior Software Engineer for AI Model Development

Help advance frontier AI systems by applying deep engineering judgment to the tasks, solutions, and benchmarks used to assess how models reason about real software and engineering work. You will work closely with AI research and program management teams, turning practical expertise into clear standards for high quality technical work.

• Review engineering knowledge-work tasks and model outputs for missing behaviors, weak reasoning, subtle implementation errors, unaddressed edge cases, and solutions that would not meet real code-review standards.
• Create detailed instruction specifications, golden solutions, and realistic engineering tasks that reflect professional practice.
• Design rigorous engineering evaluation sets and contribute to engineering-specific skills and tools with the research team.
• Partner with researchers and adjacent-domain specialists to calibrate consistent standards and translate implicit engineering judgment into explicit, teachable criteria.

• Bachelor''s degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. An MS or PhD is strongly preferred.
• At least 4 years of substantive professional engineering experience building and shipping production software or engineered systems at a reputable organization. Internships and coursework alone do not qualify.
• Specialization in at least one area such as distributed systems and backend infrastructure, security and cryptography, embedded and firmware, machine learning systems, developer tooling and platform engineering, or quality and test engineering.
• Demonstrated advancement to a senior-level role, such as Senior, Staff, Principal, Architect, or Engineering Lead, with ownership of systems and design decisions.
• Preferred evidence of engineering contributions, including shipped systems, granted patents, open source work, or published technical work.
• Hands-on professional use of large language models and the judgment to distinguish sound reasoning from plausible but incorrect answers.
• Excellent written communication and the ability to provide precise, well-structured feedback.

• Full-time W-2 position, with a 40-hour-per-week commitment for an initial 6-month engagement.
• Hybrid role based in the Bay Area, California, with on-site work alongside the client team multiple days per week when required.
• This is not a remote role. Candidates must live in the Bay Area or relocate there at their own expense before the engagement begins. Relocation assistance is not available.
• You will receive client-issued accounts and equipment and work within the client''s tools alongside internal research teams.
• The role is a structured, role-based position integrated with enterprise workflows, not a freelance engagement.

$65 to $105 per hour.
