Librarian

Supervise and manage the school library/media center. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. Serve as teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the school.

Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

• High School Diploma, preferred Bachelor’s degree.
• Strong command of English language.
• Applicant must be a Seventh-day Adventist church member in good standing. Applicant must possess a love for God, a love for working with children, and a desire to see each child in Heaven.
• Overall average competency in most or all subjects.
• Flexible, friendly and good at establishing quick rapport with students.
• Computer knowledge

Job Responsibilities:

• Maintain FLEC’s Library book selection:
  • Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources.
  • Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students.
• Update the data base for all selections in the library. Purchase new books and resources for the FLEC Library as funds are available:
  • Ensure the cataloging for new books and resources.
  • Seek book and resource requests from teachers.
  • Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students to help them locate resources and use research techniques.
  • Schedule and follow through on Library Time for grades Prek-5 Read aloud times Book selection times Book promotions As part of Library Time for grades 3-5 teach Computer/Keyboarding classes as the teacher of record.
  • Assist teachers and students in grades 6-8 with book requests and help them schedule materials for classroom instruction.
  • Plan for and conduct an annual book fair.
• Other Responsibilities Coordinate Picture Days Arrange dates with Picture company:
  • Fall Picture Day Class Picture Day Spring Picture Day Create schedule with VP for Curriculum for the classes on the day of pictures Work with IT, FLEC Registrar, and staff Yearbook Coordinator to ensure all pictures of students are up to date on FACTS SIS, Yearbook, etc.
  • Coordinate and run the annual Spelling Bee Maintain the Library’s laptop computer cart Classroom Coverage as needed Other responsibilities as assigned by Administration
