Position Title: RN Chemotherpay Infusion Nurse
Department: Oncology
Status: Full Time - Monday -Friday
Location: Position will work in Zephyrhills 4 days a week and 1 day in Land O' Lakes.
Position Summary: The Chemotherapy Infusion Registered Nurse will be trained/verified in the administration of chemotherapeutic/biotherapy agents. The RN will provide leadership which facilitates the delivery of professional nursing care for the comfort and wellbeing of our patients. The RN will be responsible for participating in the daily clinical operations of the infusion suites by utilizing the
nursing process to provide, delegate, supervise, and document care and teaching of patients and their families.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
• Coordinates out-patient care and acts as a liaison between the provider, family, and office team.
• Demonstrates excellent ability to perform patient assessments and provides symptom management as well as patient and family education.
• Sets up and administers chemotherapy, fluids, and other medications via venous access consistently following the “five rights.”
• Practices safe administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy, infusions, injections, and transfusions.
• Chemotherapy dose checks and monitors lab values for administration.
• Manages and can performs phlebotomy blood draws.
• Monitors side effects to chemotherapy and other medications and recognizes potential drug interactions.
• Accesses central catheters (PORTS/PICC).
• Acts as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care throughout various stages of treatment and follow-up including, but not exclusive to providers, social work, dietician, integrative medicine, pharmacy, navigators, laboratory, radiation therapy, genetics, and clinical research.
• Educates patients regarding chemotherapy, labs, procedures, symptoms, medications, and other information as needed.
• Reviews incoming lab, imaging, and procedure results. Forward abnormal results to providers.
• Triages patients through use of pathways and collaboration with physicians for toxicities, symptom management, and needs for referrals within the RN scope of practice.
• Manages a caseload of patients receiving a variety of infusion and oral therapies on an outpatient basis.
• Ability to flex between inpatient and outpatient areas to administer chemotherapy based on department and patient needs
• Demonstrates high level skills to manage complex workload effectively to provide safest, high-quality care.
• Demonstrates an excellent ability to communicate through various methods and with various audiences to achieve desired outcome(s).
• Participates and engages in continuous professional development, safety behaviors and focus on the patient experience.
Physical Requirements:
• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during
emergency situations.
Other Related Functions
• Knowledge of risk management concepts.
• Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Participates in both formal and informal educational programming.
• Provides ongoing training for team members including orientation and in-services.
• Investigates complaints and/or non-compliance of policies, initiates follow up actions as warranted.
• Actively participates on corporate committees, task forces and community committees.
Qualifications
Education/Training
Required: Associate degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing
Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Licensure/Certification
• Required:
o Must have and maintain current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Florida.
o Must hold an active Oncology Nurse Certification (OCN) for adult oncology or Certified Pediatric Hematology/ Oncology
Nurse (CPHON) for pediatrics.
• Current BLS certification.
• Nurse will need to complete the required Orlando Health Oncology Chemotherapy/Biotherapy/immunotherapy Verification
Courses and complete 90-day orientation with verified Oncology Preceptor.
Experience
• At least 2 years in oncology nursing.
• Nurses will be required to be proficient in management of central line and various invasive medical devices as well as infection
protocol.
