Senior Tax Accountant - Public Accounting

AlphaHire is recruiting on behalf of a client seeking a Senior Accountant with strong tax preparation experience to support a growing public accounting practice. This role focuses on preparing and reviewing tax returns for individuals and businesses while working closely with internal staff and clients to ensure accurate and timely filings.

The ideal candidate has experience in public accounting environments and is proficient in tax preparation software such as UltraTax, Drake, or Canopy . This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable managing multiple deadlines, and capable of communicating clearly with both team members and clients.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and corporations
• Manage multiple client engagements and ensure timely completion of tax filings
• Utilize tax preparation software including UltraTax, Drake, or Canopy to complete returns and manage documentation
• Review financial records and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with tax regulations
• Identify tax planning opportunities and communicate recommendations to clients and internal leadership
• Respond to client inquiries and provide guidance on tax-related matters
• Assist with tax notices, correspondence, and compliance matters when needed
• Maintain organized documentation and adhere to internal workflow processes
• Collaborate with other accounting staff to support efficient tax season operations

Requirements

• 4+ years of tax preparation experience in a public accounting environment
• Strong experience preparing individual and business tax returns
• Proficiency with UltraTax, Drake, or Canopy (at least one required)
• Solid understanding of federal and state tax regulations
• Experience reviewing financial statements and supporting tax documentation
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines during peak tax season
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
