Cardiac Device Specialist III

Position Summary: At Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute, our renowned cardiologists, heart and vascular surgeons, and cardiovascular professionals work together to provide award-winning care in 40 specialties, using the latest in diagnostic imaging and treatment options. Our multidisciplinary team includes more than 70 physicians in 24 locations across Central Florida, spanning Orange, Osceola, Lake, Seminole, Highlands and Okeechobee counties. As a part of Orlando Health, the Heart and Vascular Institute includes a network of community and specialty hospitals with more than 4,000 providers. Orlando Health | Choose Well Position Summary Works closely with physicians and other staff performing pacemaker, defibrillator and other implanted device checks as well as monitoring remote device checks. Responsibilities: Essential Functions - Serves as primary resource for clinical support in troubleshooting, programming, and patient follow-up for company products.
- Functions in a supervisory level in the absence of the Supervisor/Manager/Director when requested.
- Participates in the training and onboarding of new cardiac device specialists.
- Assists with directing daily workflow, participates in quality and safety initiatives, acts as a department super user, participates in committees related to modality, department, or facility, participates in education in-services, and complex care programs.
- Remains current on knowledge of implantable devices, and maintains competency in the field through continuing education, or other approved resources related to role.
- May assist with maintaining the department's time keeping using Orlando Health's time keeping system.
- Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field.
- Leads others in complex problem solving.
- Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgement and identify innovative solutions.
- Works independently with guidance only in complex situations.
- Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services.
- Directs and assists with the daily workflow of the device team to include patient flow, supply ordering, staffing assignments and resolution of customer services issues.
- Educates patients regarding device function and clinic follow up.
- Performs clinical and library research and participates in case reviews and clinical observation.
- Performs remote pacemaker/AICD checks every 1-4 months using approved vendor websites.
- Explains in office testing and phone check procedures to patient with verbal consent of understanding.
- Performs in office pacemaker/AICD checks every 3-6 months using approved vendor programmers: check battery life, lead impedance, view sensitivity, parameter settings, threshold/voltage/pulse wave, device utilization, and rhythm abnormalities.
- Changes or adjusts pacemaker/AICD settings or parameters as needed to enhance device performance.
- Edits and forwards final test results to attending physician for analysis and interpretation.
- Forwards abnormal findings directly to the Physician or nurse per department guidelines.
- Keys information into computer or programmer to maintain patient and office records, and uploads reports into patient chart.
- Works with vendors and Clinical Engineering to schedule equipment downtime for preventive maintenance and/or repairs and reports any equipment issues promptly.
- Knowledge of cardiac device software, Microsoft Office, and internet applications.
- Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to quality care.
- Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions, age specific needs and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
- Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient's clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately documented.
- Administers medical aid as required for any emergency situation.
- Applies appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross-contamination of diseases.
- Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
- Utilizes all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.
- Ensures safety of all customers.
- Maintains accurate and precise documentation. Accurately record verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient record.
- Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
Assist in other areas as needed or scheduled. - Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions - Assist in transporting of patients.
- Follows established standards of practice for report processing and interpretation.
- Assists in clerical duties, such as, but not limited to, printing reports, scanning documents, and scheduling of patients.
- Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.
- Maintains well stocked and organized work areas.
- May be required to work at any Orlando Health facility.
- Assists with other departmental duties and responsibilities as needed.
- May be required to work afterhours and call shifts as needed.
Qualifications: Education/Training - Bachelor's Degree; and
- Must have the following:
- International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE)
- Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS); or
- Certified Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS)
Licensure/Certification - Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider Certification.
Experience A minimum of one (1) year direct clinical experience, equivalent work experience, or experience working as a sales representative or related role for a cardiac device manufacturer required. Three (3) years of direct experience may substitute for the Bachelor's
